I thank the committee for the kind invitation to come and judge this show of that prestigious club that has done so much good for our breed. A committee that worked hard the whole day to please everybody. My compliments on a well run & friendly show. Special thanks for my ring stewards Suzy Roffey and Christine Warner who kept the ring flowing efficiently. Great hospitality. Thank you exhibitors for this wonderful entry of 152. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. When judging our lovely breed, for me the most important is the first sentence in our breed standard: “Must be racy, balanced and full of quality. In conformation, proportionate”. That is why I fell for this breed. The head and that typical Irish expression are for me a very important part of our breed TYPE. And at this show there was a lot of quality to enjoy. A lot of quality in the youngsters. But alas! There are nowadays some regular faults. I mention: coarse heads and missing that soft expression, too big and unbalanced, wrong movement, especially in the front. Caused by wrong angulations and too much muscle under the shoulder blade, Wide withers and loaded shoulders. I would like to see more dogs moving with drive from the rear and using the tail on the move. But positive on the day was. Very good presentation, handling. Only 2 wrong teethes. White teeth! Well muscled hindquarters. Good feet. Good forechests. I mention these positive things because these were less good under me in the past.
