East of England Agricultural Society 8 July 2011

Critique - Judge: Richard Bott - Bitches

I would like to thank the society and exhibitors for an enjoyable days judging. I was impressed with the overall quality of the entry and found some very promising youngsters which I feel is a good place for the breed to be in ready for the future.

I was pleased with the standard of presentation, which has vastly improved over the years. My hands were as clean when I finished as when I started so thank you for taking the time and effort to present your charges so well.

Whilst going over a number of exhibits I found that muscle tone was very soft and almost non existent. This really did show in their movement as it was sloppy and lacked drive and any ground covering, this was penalised heavily. Also I found a number of round and expressionless eyes, one of our breeds main attributes is the wonderful melting expression, please let us not lose this treasured asset.

Minor Puppy – Bitch

Entries: 10 Absentees: 2

1st DELSANTO SNOW BELLE (MRS C A SHELDON)

I thought this young lady to be very promising indeed, she took my eye on entering the ring. Lovely head with a melting expression and raised brow. Good reach of neck and correct angulation both front and rear, for her age. She presented a clean and elegant outline and both whilst standing and on the move. On the move she was very positive and steady both going and coming and in profile covered the ground well, despite her wanting to look for bugs in the grass. Best puppy Bitch

2nd GWENDARIFF THE REAL THING (MISS S ROFFEY)

Slightly bigger although but still well balanced, feminine head and expression and superb reach of neck. Stood over plenty of ground and had the angulation you would expect for her age. On the move she had wonderful ground covering side gait but was not as positive as 1 when coming and going, this will improve with age as she just needs to tighten up all through.

3rd GWENDARIFF SPECIALLY MAID (MR I CARTER)

Puppy - Bitch

Entries: 7 Absentees: 2

1st DELSANTO SNOW BELLE (MRS C A SHELDON)

2nd COVARNEY ECHO (MR G & MRS K & MISS H CONDRON & MORTIMER)

Presented a lovely balanced shape overall, feminine head and expression but just going through that slightly plain stage which will change as her head breaks. Good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Ribs well back and correct in toppling. Quarters well developed and this showed in her movement. Just needs to tighten up in her movement.

3rd GWENDARIFF VIVA LA DIVA (MRS B DAVIES)

Junior - Bitch

Entries: 12 Absentees: 5

1st ROMARNE SAVANNAH JW (MRS L MUIR)

Stylish and elegant young lady who has a feminine head and expression. Super reach of neck and correct front angulation, ribs well back and firm through loin, correct topline and super tailset. Well developed quarters which were used to advantage on the move. Her positive ground covering movement won her the class, in super coat and condition.

2nd SHENANAGIN SOFTLY SOFTLY (MR J A WATT)

Preferred this bitch's head to 1 as slightly more work at this stage and a melting expression. Good neck and shoulder placement and return of upper arm. Good clean outline and well developed rib which led to a firm loin. Quarters well developed and slight drop over the croup. A very nice lady that once she tightens in front will not be far off top honours I'm sure.

3rd HENALEAS CARRY ON FLIRTING (MRS J A & MR PJ HUMPHREYS)

Yearling - Bitch

Entries: 9 Absentees: 0

1st SHANDWICK STAR SHINE AT TELERI JW (MRS P CATLING)

On going over this bitch I felt the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. She has a beautiful head, balanced and with the correct melting expression with a raised brow. Correct length of neck leading to well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm, developed forechest and ribs well back. She is firm through the loin and has a lovely tailset all giving the elegant and racy outline one is looking for in and Irish. Quarters were well developed with the right amount of bend to her stifles. She stood on good legs and feet with the correct amount of bone for her size. She moved very soundly covering the ground with ease. I had no hesitation in awarding her the CC and I am sure that she will certainly gain her title with ease. In challenge for BOB she sadly decided she had done her bit and didn't want to move.

2nd ROMARNE SAVANNAH JW (MRS L MUIR)

3rd BALINTYNE FOREIGN AFFAIR (MRS G BARKER-BELL)

Maiden - Bitch

1st SHENANAGIN SOFTLY SOFTLY (MR J A WATT)

2nd RIVERMAN ROYAL ROSA AT VANDERS (MRS J C HOWATSON)

In the first class that this young lady was in she decided to do the Irish Jig whilst moving but thankfully she had settled down for this class. She presented a pleasing outline, feminine head and expression and has good overall body properties. Super coat and condition and well presented.

3rd THENDARA JOCASTA (MISS T & MRS D & MR JN GARDNERMILLIGAN-BOTT & BOTT)

Lovely shape to her head, balanced and very feminine, Good reach of neck and correct topline. Good angulation fore and aft, good rib and correct finish to the croup. She has a good ground covering profile movement.

A very nice class, my first 5 could easily change places I had some hard decisions to make here.

1stKERRYFAIR ALL IN RED (MRS S & MISS K CHORLEY-NEWTON & CHORLEY)

Very honest lady of super type. Feminine head which is balanced with a pleasing expression. Good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders and straight front. Good ribs and firm through the loin, carrying a shade too much weight on the day but this did not detract. Stifles well bend and in firm condition. Moved very true and soundly to win the class.

2nd RIVERBRUE ENYO AT JUBLIANA (MR I G & MRS A J HARVEY)

Clean in outline and of good size and balance. Feminine head and soft expression although I would like a shade more work, good clean reach of neck and correct front construction. Ribs sprung and well back and firm through the loin. Quarters developed and used to advantage on the move, slight drop over the croup. In good condition and well presented, once she got going she moved soundly and true.

3rd SUTERESETT WISPA AT JULDEANE JW (MR L & MRS J WELLER)

Post Graduate - Bitch

Entries: 11 Absentees: 2

1st BARDONHILL DAYS ARE DIAMOND JW (MRS M BOTT)

It is no secret that this lady is a favourite of mine as I have done her well in the past. As she matures she improves with age as she should. She has a beautiful head and expression, correct neck and should placement, good return of upper arm and deep through chest. Quarters well developed and really used to advantage as she flowed around the ring. Unfortunately she was carrying too much weight today and this spoilt her outline and she had a roll on the move. Presented in good coat.

2nd COLANME CONFETTI FOR ISEBROOK (MR M & MRS C BROOKS)

Unlucky to meet 1 today as I thought this lady looked very well indeed. Feminine head but a shade strong in back skull. Clean reach of neck and well placed shoulders, straight front and correct bone. Ribs sprung and back and developed quarters. Presented very well and in good coat and condition, moved soundly and true just lacked a little sparkle.

3rd RIVERBRUE ENYO AT JUBLIANA (MR I G & MRS A J HARVEY)

Mid Limit - Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1st BARDONHILL SINGING SKIES OVER ANLORY JW (MR & MISS NAYLOR & MORRISON)

Presented an elegant outline and pleasing image. Feminine head with super expression and dark eye. Clean through neck and shoulder and straight front, ribs well back but a little long through the loin for me. Quarters well developed and used to advantage on the move, held her topline throughout and tailset spot on. She moved true with drive and purpose, well presented but just changing her coat at the moment.

2nd AVONFARM BALINTYNE ON BROADWAY (IMP USA ) (MR D J & MRS G BELL & BARKER-BELL)

Balanced and elegant with a feminine head and dark eye, just a little plain for me but never the less a feminine expression. Clean neck leading to well placed shoulders, good front assembly and straight front. Held her topline throughout although a shade level on the stack. Super quarters and hard condition. Another who knows how to cover the ground on the move. Well presented and handled sympathetically to get the best from her.

3rd GWENDARIFF FIZZY POP JW (MRS D STEWART- RITCHIE)

Limit - Bitch

Entries: 9 Absentees: 1

1st BRINARA WINTER CHERRY JW (MRS B & MRS L BERRY & MORRIS)

A lovely shaped and sized lady, elegant head with soft expression although a tad wide between the eyes. Good reach of neck and shoulder placement, Gently sloping topline and well set on tail, Balanced angulation fore and aft and in super coat and condition, good open side gait in which she covered the ground well.

2nd SHENANAGIN SUGA BABE JW (MR J A WATT)

Judged this lady before and she is maturing on nicely. Lovely type of bitch who presents a clean and elegant picture. Feminine head with a melting expression that almost says "who you looking at" Good reach of neck and front assembly, deep through brisket and ribs well back, firm loin and good quarters. Moved well and true but could not match 1 for the drive as she was being held back a little. Liked her a lot and could take her home.

3rd CARNBARGUS CONTEMPLATION JW (MRS E GARDNER)

Open - Bitch

Entries: 9 Absentees: 3

1st IR SH CH GWENDARIFF ROCK DIVA JW CW'10 (MRS D & MISS C STEWART-RITCHIE & NEILL)

Surprised myself with this lady, she is a bitch you need to get your hands on to appreciate her qualities. She won the class on her effortless movement, I was looking for something that could move with drive and purpose and she certainly did, she presents an elegant and racy picture and is presented to perfection, if I am being critical her head is not her fortune to my taste, she is a shade light in eye and lacks a little work, however she is feminine and has a gentle expression with a raised brow. Good body properties and in hard condition. I was pleased to award her the RCC and I am sure she will gain her title with ease.

2nd BRABROOK FANTASY BELIEVER WITH RIVERBRUE (MR B A & MISS N T E CROCKER & HAMMICK)

She presents a beautiful picture elegant and clean, I preferred her head to 1, good neck and shoulder placement, firm gently sloping topline leading to well set on tail and powerful quarters. Doesn't carry a huge coat but what she has is of correct quality and texture, she moved true and covered the ground well in profile her only downfall is she does enough and nothing more and hence she lacked drive and style but could not be denied her place.
