Midlands Irish Setter Society Open Show 3 July 2010

Critique - Judge -Miss R C  Lewis (Valasarch)

Thank you to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge their show I thoroughly enjoyed my day , and thank you to the exhibitors for bringing so many quality dogs. I was so pleased with my final line up, Thank you.

Veteran dog (4)

1 Wilkins/Parkinsons, Margretwoods Travlin Light. I have always liked this 9 yr old. He has a lovely balanced head with a kind expression, low ear set and an elegant neck that leads nicely into good shoulders. Good depth of chest and spring of ribs. He has a strong sloping top line and powerful hindquarters, which enabled him to move soundly. He looked really well today . His outline is so pleasing, everything fits nicely together and he also has that ‘look at me attitude. BVIS

2 Gladwishs, Clannad Clever Cloggs. He looked really well today. He is a smaller made dog than 1 and not so eye catching but he has a pleasing head, good in shoulder and strong top line. He moved well and seemed to enjoy his day out.

3 Lucas, Caskeys Persuader from Amberlight.

Veteran Bitch (8,3)

A nice class and the golden oldie brought tears to my eyes.

1 Watertons, Lynwood Strands of Silk at Sandstream. Really lovely lady so feminine, she has the most gorgeous head and the kindest of eyes. Very good front assembly, plenty of lung room and spring of ribs. She has nicely angulated quarters and carried her tail correctly. She moved out well and looked good today.

2 Wilkins, Margretwoods Perfect Peach. Another lovely lady who I have always admired. Such a character. She is elegant and racy, strong in top line and so sound ,she moved really well with driving action .

3 Halls, Sh Ch Glennara Fleur De Mai.

Minor Puppy Dog (4)

1 Wards, Bardonhill The Hustler Conning Copperwhite. Such a poppet. 1 and 2 are litter brothers and very similar . Both have pleasing heads for their age and very sweet expressions . They both look very promising. For me 1 scored in shoulder over his brother . He has good length to his upper arm. He has a pleasing outline with nicely shaped hindquarters, he looked quite balanced for his age and moved well for his tender months.

2 Botts, Bardonhill Gambling Willie.

3 Naylor/Morrisons, Anlory Barossa

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

1 Botts, Bardonhill Granny Mae. Litter sister to 1 and 2 in last class. What a promising litter. Such a shame she stood alone. Very promising sweet headed baby. Good lay of shoulder and depth of brisket, loved her shape and quality. She looked just right for age and moved soundly around the ring for one so young.

Puppy Dog (4)

1 Sheldons, Balintyne Foreign Intrigue at Delsanto. Nice type of boy not exaggerated in any way. Good head with a pleasing expression, neck flows nicely into shoulders but would like to see a better upper arm. Strong in brisket and depth, well balanced and moved well. Best puppy dog.

2 Gardners, Manfred Mr Moondance. Rangier and longer coupled puppy who will need time. He has an eyecatching outline, nicely shaped head but preferred the expression of 1. Good in shoulder and depth of chest, nicely angulated hind quarters ,moved ok.

3 Naylor/Morrisons, Anlory Barossa.

Puppy Bitch (3,1)

1 Pollards Grayrigge Rosalind. I thought she was lovely such an attractive outline . She has a beautiful head such a sweet and pretty expression . She is so elegant throughout. Good reach of neck that leads into lovely shoulders so sound in front. Firm gently sloping top line finished off with nicely shaped quarters. She just flowed around the ring. She is so promising. BPIS.

2 Cooks, Grayrigge Rionagh. Nice type of bitch, good in outline and moved well.

Junior Dog (11,1)

Nice class headed by

1 Grattons, Bardonhill Floating Moon into Glenlaine. Really nice young man, love his outline and so balanced when moving and standing. He has a most attractive head, lovely expression. Good reach of neck leading to nicely angulated shoulders, straight front and good spring of rib. His top line gently slopes, and he is nicely finished at croup which enabled him to use his tail correctly. He moved really well and looked more together on the day.

2 Gisbys/Pikes, Suteresett Milky Way with Scarletti. Another lovely boy who I feel is going through that ’teenager stage’. Totally different type to 1. He too has a handsome head , low ear set, good reach of neck but would like him cleaner over the shoulders. Good spring of ribs and nicely angulated hindquarters, beautiful dark coat and he moved out well.

3 Lewis, Deaconara Danse De Bleu Avec Dotcomsetter .

Junior Bitch (10,2)

Lovely class

1 Humphreys, Millcroft Moongem of Henaleas. She is so feminine and not exaggerated in anyway, you need to go over her to appreciate her qualities. She has the most pretty head, elegant neck which is set nicely into well laid shoulders. Good depth and plenty of lung room. Strong in top line and finish of croup. In lovely condition and moved well from her lovely well muscled hindquarters.

2 Wellers Suteresett Wispa at Juldeane. Another really pretty bitch, darker coated and in lovely condition. Scrumptious head with correct skull shape. Nice shoulders but needs to drop a little in depth but still only young and has plenty of time, strong in top line and lovely shaped hindquarters which enabled her to move really well with style.

3 Gardners Carnbargus Confetti.

Yearling Dog (6,1)

1 Ciechonskas, Coppers Champagne on Ice at Aoibheanne. Quality dog. I think he is lovely. He is so handsome but maintains the raciness which I feel is disappearing . He is not exaggerated in any way ,again I feel exaggeration is creeping into our breed. His head is chiselled and so balanced with kind eyes. Good reach of neck that flowed into lovely shoulders. He is strong all through and moved as though he could go on all day. He is longer coupled but so well balanced and his outline is finished off with his lovely quarters. Considered for Res BD

2 Axons, Brinara Back in the Running. Bigger rangier boy who will need time. Pleasing head, nicely angulated front and rear. firm topline and made strongly all through . Moved well.

3 Lewis, Deaconara Danse De Bleu Avec Dotcomsetter.

Yearling Bitch (8,3)

1 Wellers, Suteresett Wispa at Juldeane

2, Grattons, Reddins Lydia at Glelaine. Her head is so pretty and ultra feminine. She has a good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, straight front standing on neat feet. I would like a little bit more length to her body. She is nicely angulated behind and moved soundly.

3.Gardners Carnbargus Confetti.

Novice Dog (8,1)

1 Grattons, Bardonhill Floating moon into Glelaine.

2 Axons, Brinara Back in the Running

3 Gardners, Mayfred Mr Moondance

Novice Bitch (9,3)

1 Humphreys, Millcroft Moongem at Henaleas

2 Gardners, Garnbargus Confetti. Very pretty feminine girl, balanced head with a soft expression, elegant neck, good depth of brisket, nicely angulated shoulders and hind quarters ,moved ok .

3 Gisbys, Suteresett Black Magic

Graduate Dog (2)

Such a shame that they were only two dogs in this class

1 Botts, Bardonhill Grinning Bear. Strongly built dog. His head is balanced and has lovely finish to muzzle, but would like a kinder eye. I have seen him a couple of times from the ringside and always thought he was a little too much for me but going over him he is very sound . Excellent depth of chest ,plenty of heart and lung room. Nicely made quarters and powered around the ring in lovely coat and condition.

2 Walters, Deneil Breakfast in Bed, So unlucky to meet 1 who was in top order. This boy I didn‘t like as a youngster but he has really improved and looks a different dog. He has a nice shaped head and expression. Good shoulders and depth of chest, gentle sloping top line and moved well still needs more time.

Graduate Bitch (10,4)

1 Watertons, Lynwood Kissed by an Angel at Sandstream. I thought she looked beautiful today, such a lovely expression and shape of head. Her neck moulds nicely into lovely laid back shoulders and good length of upper arm. Strong sound front and neat feet. Her body is shapely and has a superb back end, she is so well balanced and looked a picture both standing and moving . Res best bitch

2 Naylor/ Morrisons, Anlory Crianza. Pleasing bitch but not as feminine as 1, she has good angulation both front and rear and moved well.

3 Muirs, Romarne Deliah

Post Grad Dog (7,3)

1 Gardners, Riqitta Authentic, lovely young boy handsome head with a kind eye, head is very balanced with a low set ears. Nice shoulders, good depth of chest and spring of ribs. He is longer coupled but maintains balance. Hindquarters are strong and he moved very well. Owner tends to over stretch him at times and this makes him loose his top line, but I liked him..

2 Gladwishs, Glenlaine The Best Man. He looked really well today and has improved since last seeing him. He has a kind expression but would like a squarer finish to muzzle and a tad more length of neck but he has good shoulders and quarters, firm top line, and he moved well.

3 Murray-Hogsflesh, Serrula Cherry Fizz Clannad.

Post Grad Bitch(3)

1 Farndells, Cordarragh Jive Bunny. Nice type of bitch who had the best shoulders in the class. Attractive head and expression , good length of neck which lead into sound shoulders, longer coupled but retained her balance when standing and on the move. Coat not at its best but she had not long finished her maternal duties ,but I liked her.

2 Rowles, Corriecas Bronte with Zendarric. Attractive lady who has a lovely head and expression, elegant neck but would prefer a better lay of shoulder but her upper arm has good length in lovely condition.

3 Clemences, Anlory Corvina

Limit dog (4,1)

1 Milligan-bott/Botts, Thendara Kramer. Upstanding eye catching dog , he has a nice eye but a little strong in skull for me. Shoulders are lovely and he has plenty of heart room and good spring of ribs. Firm gently sloping top line and strong all through. He is very balanced and powered around the ring.

2 Cohens, Caispern Vilette with Shushana. Another handsome boy. Strong looking dog not as clean over the shoulders as 1 but well balanced all through and moved well.

3 Watkins, Brinara Morris Traveller.

Limit Bitch (4,1)

Two lovely bitches

1 Halls, Glennara Lehana. Attractive lady so clean in outline, nothing exaggerated and so balanced. Beautiful head, good length of neck, neat shoulders which matched her well angulated backend, lovely shape all through and she moved well.

2 Naylors/Morrisons, Anlory Carmenere. Stronger looking bitch but so well balanced, pleasing in head and low set ears. Would like a bit more neck on her but nice body properties and she moved nicely.

3 Randles, Rionore Bewitching Thyme

Open Dog(6,1)

Two beautiful dogs headed this class.

1 Lauwers SH CH/INT CH Sumaric Shadow of Mr Jingles. Did not know it was him until afterwards as this exhibitor seems to always show such quality males. He has the most beautiful head , such a kind expression, lovely finish to muzzle. He is so heavily coated that you need to get your hands on him to really appreciate how soundly made he is. When you place you hands on his shoulders they are in the right place with a good length and return of upper arm. Strong straight front and pasterns and he stands on firm feet. He is so strongly made and all male. Excellent spring of ribs, firm top line well muscled hindquarters that powered him around the ring. In beautiful coat and condition and in top form. BIS

2 Sheldons, SH CH Delsanto Isaac. I judged him as a youngster and loved him then. He is a lovely honest looking dog with no exaggerations. Beautiful balanced head, strong neck that leads cleanly into lovely shoulders, very sound in front and such an attractive shape, clean in outline and moved well. He is not the most eye catching or glamorous dog but so very sound and honest. Res Best Dog.

3 Lutos, Rappatty Bobby Dazzler.

Open Bitch (2)

1 Wilkins, Margretwoods Kitty Cat. Such a beautiful girl. She has a very pretty head, expressive eyes correct shape to skull and muzzle. Her neck is elegant and leads into excellent shoulders. Her front is sound and she has no ugly lumps or bumps, good spring of ribs. Her top line just flows into strongly made well muscled hindquarters. She is such a beautiful racy type and to top it, she moved soundly with animation around the ring to take Best bitch and RBIS.

2 Sheldons, Delsanto Maisie. Really pretty headed bitch. Lovely shaped head with a low ear set. Good neck that leads into nicely angulated shoulders strongly made and moved well but with not the verve of 1.
