Critique - Judge - Lynda Fauvrelle
Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the ISAE for inviting me to judge at their open show at Horspath Village Hall; the last time, I understand, that this show would be held at this venue. Thank you also to all who entered, including those who, for whatever reason, could not attend on the day and to my two very efficient stewards. Thankfully for all, the weather was cooler than on previous days and stayed dry despite the forecast of rain.
Best in Show was Glennara Lehana JW ShCM,
Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex was Covarney Mocha,
Best Puppy was Bardonhill Floating Moon Into Glenlaine
Best Veteran was Lynwood Strands Of Silk At Sandstream JW ShCM.
Presentation overall was very good; feet were mostly neat and tight, however I did find several level bites, plus some that were mighty close to being level, which deviates from the scissor bite stated in the breed standard – I hope this does not become the norm.
MPD (5,2)
1 Perrin & Gurney’s Danaway Picasso, compact puppy, right for age. Soft dark eye and nice earset, not best defined head at the moment but at 8mths still time to develop. Well made throughout from good length of neck into shoulder lay, through gently sloping topline over correct croup into nice tailset. Good bend of stifle, desired width of chest and neat feet. Moved with confidence and drive once settled.
2 Nicholls’ Cordarragh Panama Jack, bigger than 1 and head a little stronger, nice reach of neck. Deep chest and well muscled through with strong loin, good bend of stifle, good tailset, moved steady around the ring.
3 Barker-Bell’s Balintyne The Continental

1 Gratton’s Bardonhill Floating Moon Into Glenlaine, upstanding boy absolutely right for his age, full of himself. Presented in lovely condition with gleaming chestnut coat. Correct earset, nice foreface and head definition with well defined stop and raised brow and naughty twinkle in his eye, truly Irish! Straight front, ample sternum, deep chested. Well angulated fore and aft with good width of second thigh. Moved with style and drive holding his topline and using his tail correctly. Best Puppy Dog and BPIS
2 Rowles’ Zendarric Mischief Managed, darker coated and more compact than 1, well defined head and brow, good body properties and angulation. Steady mover although a little proud of his tail.
3 Cordarragh Panama Jack

Nice forechest, straight front, good reach of neck, balanced and well bodied with lovely overall shape and correct tailset, good fore and aft angulation, no exaggerations. A little unsettled on the move but sure he can do it if he sets his mind to it.

1 Neathamill Lyrebird, dark gentle eye and correct earset. Good head and outline both on the stand and move. Strong hindquarters with good set on of tail, would like a little more forechest. Moved with purpose.
2 Needs’ Danceset The Boyfriend, a little broader in the head than 1, strong neck into sloping topline, well angulated at rear, preferred the tailset of 1. Moved ok.
PGD (4,2)
1 Needs’ Covarney Mocha , the last time I judged him he was young and very raw; he has now matured into a handsome masculine dog with beautiful dark coat. Lots of work in his head with raised brows, dark quizzical eye with chiselling under, strong arched neck into good shoulders, well bodied with plenty of lung and heart room, pronounced sternum, strong loin, width over croup with strong quarters, hocks well let down and tight feet. Correct tailset using it to advantage as he strode out on the move with head held high. Best Dog/RBIS/BOS
2 Gladwish’s Glenlaine The Best Man, nice type, balanced outline, pleasant head with expressive eye, good length and muscle of neck, deep chested with well ribbed body and strong quarters, nice feet. Moved okay.
LD (5,3)
1 Jones’ Janter Manannan Mac Lir At Hunnicote, close decision between these two. I have always liked this boy and consider him to be an ‘honest sound dog’ with no exaggerations and nothing to hide. Balanced head, good finish to muzzle, nice shaped eye with kindly expression, well defined brow and stop, low earset, strong arched neck into excellent shoulder placement. Well off for sternum, deep chested, well ribbed back, strong through loin and over croup with correct tailset. Good width of second thigh, well angulated stifle into low hock joint with short pasterns, tight feet. Just scored in forechest and overall musculature over 2. Needed a little more animation on the move in the challenge for Best Dog. Reserve Best Dog
2 Pullen & Atkin’s Shanoah Jump To It, have done this boy well before and have watched him mature into the finished article he is today. Lovely head structure and well defined foreface with gentle expressive eye, correct earset. Good width and depth of chest, well sprung ribs, good angulation and strong quarters, moved with ease around the ring making good use of his tail.

1 Lucas’ Caskeys Persuader From Amberlight, looking well for his age, in good condition with good overall profile. Lovely head with low earset, correct eye shape, soft and gentle with that ever- inquisitive look. Straight front, gentle sloping topline, held that and his tailset on the move which he did with drive.

1 Thwaites’ Wynjill Harvest Wine, just approaching 9mths, lovely rich chestnut coat. Pretty head with beautiful low set and long ears, dark eye of good shape, straight front, good length of neck. Needs to drop into her rear but she is still a baby with time on her side. Settled and confident on the move. Best Puppy Bitch.
2 Barker-Bell’s Balintyne Foreign Affair, pretty baby with the softest of expressions, head long and lean and needs time to break, fine bone and racy in outline, just a little fine for me at the moment.

3 Middleton’s Derrydore Ruby Dream At Trebeurden
LB (11,3)
Probably the hardest class of the day, quality bitches most of whom moved with balance, style and drive.
1 Hall’s Glennara Lehana JW ShCM, couldn’t fault her for presentation, style and balance, owned the ring. Feminine refined head with long low set ears, length of neck flowing into gently sloping topline, well put together with good depth of chest and length of body, well ribbed back, correct angulations, strong arched loin, correct tailset and strong 2nd thigh. Firm topline held on the move as she flowed effortlessly around the ring. Best Bitch and BIS

1 Waterton’s Lynwood Strands Of Silk At Sandstream JW ShCM, my notes say ”she never slacks does she” and she didn’t. So feminine with nice head and foreface definition and such gentle dark eyes, low earset, nice reach of neck into lovely topline, excellent fore and aft angulation and width of thigh. Moved with drive, so happy and balanced with correct ‘kick-back’ of rear feet showing her pads. BVIS
2 Brady’s Ir Sh Ch Harreds Jessica By Amberlight , another I have always liked, lovely head and expression, length of neck, size and shape and muscle and angulation, 2nd thigh. Nice tuck up and finish to croup, good tailset, moved a little close behind.
