Darlington Championship Show 18 September 2011

Critique - Judge: Miss Cathy Loughlin (Rohanmor)

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge on my first CC appointment.  I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me such a good quality entry.  The Limit and Open classes in both dogs and bitches were of outstanding quality and give me a bit of headache as there were several exhibits who were great favourites of mine.  Unfortunately the weather decided to play havoc during the judging of the bitches and I hope that the majority of exhibitors were in agreement with my decisions as to where to continue on judging..

VD (2)

1. Ashley-Turner's Biabreeze Fred Astaire, just into veteran and looking very well for his seven years.  My type of dog, strong, masculine, possessing a handsome head.  Moderate length of neck leading to well placed shoulders.  Super depth to body, correct amount of rear angulation which allowed him to drive off well muscled hindquarters.  Rich dark coat presented in good condition.  BV.

2. Stockton's Kespas Infrared JW.  This boy has a most wonderful head, masculine, yet retaining a soft expression.  Straight front, well bodied, good front and rear angulations.  He has excellent driving action for his age.  To finish the picture would prefer a better croup.

MPD (4)

1. Swainston's  Tagipoto Ice God, handsome youngster, although very much at the raw stage at the moment. Nicely balanced head with soft expression and correct eye shape.  Built on clean lines with good length of neck and enough depth of chest for his age.  Well angulated front and rear.  His more positive movement won him the class today.

2. Cohen's Caispern Lorenzo With Shushana, very nice puppy who again is very much at the raw stage.  Masculine head with dark eye.  Well bodied for his age, and I expect there is more to come.   Enough rear angulation at this stage. Firm top-line which he held on the move.

3. Hyslop & Stewart/Ritchie's Gwendariff The Specialist.

PD  (6,3a)

1. Luto's  Rappatty Excalibur.  At 10 months old this young man is well developed.  Possesses a handsome head with dark eye and melting expression.  Good length to neck leading to well placed shoulders.  Straight front.  Excellent body throughout for one so young, with plenty of bone.   Enough rear angulation at the present time.  Super muscular condition which showed in his positive rear movement, although still needs to tighten in front.   A super dark, well groomed coat completed the picture.  I will watch to see how he develops, BPD

2. Lucas' Kerryfair Gets Lucky Over Amberlight.  Another young man whose head is outstanding with a dark well shaped eye.  Good front, enough body for age, firm top-line which he held on the move.  Built on a lighter made frame and was unfortunate to meet the winner whose build is more my type.

3. Cole's Gwendariff Pellegrino

JD (7)

1. Bailey's Glencarron Sunbeam, this boy caught my eye on my initial assessment.  Good head with a kind eye and raised brow and that soft quizzical expression.  Well boned, best of fronts with neat feet, good width to fore-chest and plenty of sternum and is well bodied for his age.  Well muscled with strong powerful hindquarters which he used to advantage on the move.  Overall condition and presentation of this young man was outstanding and completed the picture.

2. Pollard & Cook's Grayrigge Benedict, noticed this young man when he first came out into the show-ring and liked him very much then.  He has the most beautiful head, well chiselled with a kind dark eye, very much like his sire.  At present on the leaner side, but with time should fill out into a handsome lad.  Nicely angulated front and rear.  Strong firm top-line leading to a correct tail-set which never stopped lashing as he moved superbly round the ring.

3.  Milligan-Bott & Bott Thendara Pot Noodle JW.

YD (4)

1. Bailey's Glencarron Sunbeam.

2. Poppleton's Brinara Hanson, long lean head with kind well shaped eye, although could be darker.  Excellent front, moderate length of neck leading to good shoulder placement and firm top-line.  Super depth of chest, nicely angulated in rear, moved well.

3. Danze's Romarne Stevie Wonder

ND (4,1a)

1.  Luto's  Rappatty Excalibur.

2. McCleave & McCleave's Kirkavagh Helissio With Raesha. Unplaced in Junior.  This boy has a lovely head with a kind dark eye.  In profile standing, he is a picture and fills your eye, but he is somewhat narrow in front and for his age is over-angulated behind and longer in hock hence his erratic movement, but this should improve with time.

3. Dobson's Tredura Heartbreak Kid.

GD (8,1a)

1. Greenan's Anlory The Living Daylights Over Juleset JW, super quality 2½ year old male of medium size standing on a powerful frame.  Masculine head with kind dark eye, well boned, true front, super body proportions, balanced throughout with no exaggerations, firm top-line which he held on the move.  Rich chestnut coat, presented in excellent coat and condition, moved well to win the class.

2. Rance's Mayfred Mr Magnifico, fell for this young man when he was just a puppy.  He possesses the most beautiful head with a well shaped dark eye, masculine yet retaining that soft Irish expression.  Straight front with excellent fore-chest.  Strong, moderate length of neck leading to well placed shoulders.  Well bodied with deep chest.  Carries his tail well as he drives off muscular and nicely-angulated hindquarters.

3. Gratton's Bardonhill Floating Moon into Glenlaine.

PGD (9,1a)

1. Lewis' Deaconara Danse de Bleu avec Dottcomsetter JW.  Was pleased to get my hands on this young man, having admired him from the ring-side.  He is well-put together and quite eye-catching. He has a nicely chiselled, masculine head and a quizzical raised brow.  Excellent front, Moderate length of neck, correct lay-back of shoulder, well bodied throughout, correct top-line which he held on the move.  He also carries his tail well as he powers round the ring on well-muscled hindquarters.

2. Kniveton's Feylinci Beachcomer At Orstone JW.  Although not a flamboyant dog there is a lot to like about this boy  He is well balanced throughout, lovely head shape and expression with dark eye, good length of neck and shape of body with clean lines, super depth of chest, excellent top-line.  Well muscled hindquarters with good angulations, which he used to his advantage on the move.

3. Carter's Kerrimere Just Rumours

LD (11)

1. McNeil, Boyd-McNeil's Glencarron Shakatak.  I have admired this boy from the ring-side on many occasions, and it was a pleasure to be able to judge him.  His head is long and lean with a well shaped dark eye.  He stands on straight forelegs with an excellent fore-chest.  He has a strong muscular well arched neck leading into well laid back shoulders.  Super depth of chest and spring of rib.   Good width to thigh.  Well angulated in rear without any exaggeration.  His top-line is straight and firm leading to a correct tail-set.  He was presented in excellent muscular condition which showed as he moved freely round the ring.  To complete the picture he was presented in excellent coat and condition and was delighted to award him the CC (his third).

2. Harvey's Jubliana Murphy Midnight Star Sh CM.  Strong, powerful and impressive as how I would describe this dog.  He has a handsome masculine head and kind quizzical eye.  Plenty of bone, straight front, excellent fore-chest.  Super body properties throughout.  Nicely angulated front and rear.  Best tail-set and carriage of the day.  He has short, strong hocks with powerful, muscular hindquarters which allowed him to drive around the ring lashing his tail as he went..

3. Milligan-Bott & Bott's Thendara Kramer

OD (7,1a)

1. Lauwers' Thendara Frozen Asset JW.  Another that I have admired since a youngster.  Impressive looking in profile with a long lean head and dark eye.  Good front, clean, moderate length to neck leading to good shoulder placement.  Excellent top-line which he held well on the move.  He possesses the most gorgeous rich dark well feathered coat and when you put your hands on him he is a well bodied dog underneath.  Moved very well to win the class & Res CC.

2. Rose-Hay, Quinn & McNamara's Cataluna Regency Rake.  Not a big dog by any means, but he is very well put together.  He has a good head with kind eye.  Straight front with enough front and rear angulations.  Well presented.  His super driving action won him his place in a very strong class.

3. Burke/s Clachnahar Ami Pierrot JW.

VB (3,2a)

1. Waterton's Lynwood Strands of Silk At Sandstream JW Sh CM.  At almost 10 years of age this lady still retains an ultra feminine head with a well shaped dark eye.  She has excellent body properties with a firm top-line which she held on the move.  Good front and rear angulations.  She is still very well muscled for her age as she drove around the ring and could show some of the younger ones how to move.

MPB (4,2a)

Two very nice minor puppies

1. Sheldon's Delsanto Snow Belle, 8 month old bitch, sweet feminine head with dark eye, well arched clean neck leading to well placed shoulders, straight front, good pasterns and neat feet, well bodied for one so young, moved true and steady for her age with a clean firm top-line.

2. Rowles' Zendarric Arizona Sunset, another sweet baby with a feminine head.  Moderate clean neck, with good shoulder placement.  Standing with straight front and well bodied for her age.  Just preferred the top-line of 1 who was also more positive on the move at this present time.

PB (9,2a)

1. Danks-Kemish's Alolfran Copocabana, super 10 month old puppy, so together for her age.  Beautiful chiselled head with a well shaped dark eye and raised brow.  Well boned, excellent front, neat feet, strong muscular neck leading to good shoulder placement.  Excellent body throughout, firm top-line, enough rear angulation at this time.  Carried her tail well as she moved with verve around the ring.  A lovely rich dark well presented coat which gleamed in the sunlight completed the picture.

2. Sheldon's Delsanto Snow Belle.

3. Rowles' Zendarric Arizona Sunset.

JB (12,1a)

1. Gardner, Bott & Milligan-Bott's Thendara Lenamore.  I must confess, I am surprised at how much this bitch has changed from when I first saw her.  At 13 months of age she is now coming together nicely and is built on a good strong frame.  Sweet, pretty head with well shaped eye, although would like a darker eye.  Good front and rear angulations.   Well boned, excellent depth to chest and spring of rib.  Strong firm top-line leading to a good tailset.  Very well presented.  Stood out on in the class for her free flowing movement.  Was pleased to hear that this win gave this young lady her Junior Warrant

2. Howatson's Riverman Royal Rosa At Vanders.  On my first assessment thought this bitch would be my winner having admired her in the past.  She is so ultra feminine, with a pretty head.  Very mature for her age and presented in full bloom.  Good front, moderate length to neck, well placed shoulders leading to a good top¬-line.  However, she is built on finer lines and I feel that she needs a little more enthusiasm on the move.

3. Prangle's Heathclare A Kind of Magic.

YB (9,1a)

1. Muir's Romarne Savanah JW 1.  On my first glance this young lady caught my eye.  Excellent chiselling to head with a kind dark eye.  Straight front legs standing on neat feet.  Super fore-chest, depth to chest and spring of rib.  Nicely bodied for her age.  Strong muscular neck leading to well laid back shoulders and clean firm top-line.  Powerful muscular rear with good angulations.   Moved very well with an excellent tail carriage.  Her coat is a rich dark chestnut colour and once she gets her full feathering she will be completed.  Really liked this young lady a lot.  Res CC.  Was delighted afterwards to find out she is a G. G. Daughter of R. Rheane (an all time favourite of mine).

2. Berry & Morris' Brinara Briet.  Another young lady who is ultra feminine with a pretty head and kind eye.  Good fore-chest, well bodied with super depth to chest and spring of rib.  Built on clean lines.  Good front and rear angulations.  Firm top-line held on the move.

3. Howatson's Riverman Royal Rosa At Vanders.

NB (11)

1. Gardner, Bott & Milligan-Bott's Thendara Lenamore.
2.  Berry & Morris' Brinara Briet.
3.  Prangle's Heathclare A Kind of Magic.

GB (15, 1a)

1. Brady's Reddins Frolic Among Amberlight.  Elegant 2½ year old bitch who I have previously admired.  Although she is elegant throughout there is plenty to put your hands.  Pleasing head with well shaped eye although would like it a bit darker.  Good length to clean muscular neck leading to well laid back shoulders. Super body proportions  Firm top-line held on the move leading to good tail-set.  Excellent angulations.  Powered steadily round the ring.  Very well presented.

2.  King's Kirkavagh Ebodiyla JW, another very nice bitch, so well put together.  Good head with plenty of work to foreface.  Straight front.  Super fore-chest, depth of body and spring of rib.  With good front and rear angulations which showed as she moved round the ring.

3. Sturrock & Sturrock's  Forforian Caught You Lookin JW.

PGB (11,1a)

1. Waterton's Lynwood Kissed By An Angel At Sandstream JW. Delightful lady who just oozes elegance.   Feminine head with that soft Irish expression.   Excellent fore-chest, depth to body and spring of rib.  Nicely angulated hindquarters with plenty of muscle.  Correct tail carriage and top-line which she held on the move.  Very well presented.

2. Davie's Lochfrae Affinity.  Pleasing head with good eye.   Correct front, good depth of chest and spring of rib, built on clean lines.  Nicely angulated front and rear with well muscled hindquarters.  Excellent top-line held well on the move.

3. Harvey's Riverbrue Enyo At Jubliana .

LB (12, 3a)

1. Hogflesh's Lyngor Living Water JW.  Totally surprised by this young lady, although having watched her from the ring-side, it is only until you get your hands on her that you can appreciate her depth of quality.  Built on a stronger frame, yet still retaining that ultra feminine look.  She possesses a lovely well chiselled head with a dark nicely shaped eye.  Her neck is well arched and muscular leading to well laid back shoulders, correct front, straight pasterns with well arched neat feet, super depth of chest with well sprung ribs.  Plenty of bone.  Strong well angulated hindquarters with enough width to second thigh, moved true and steady with drive, holding her top-line with a good tail carriage.  Delighted to award her the CC & BOB.

2. Hunter & Brown's Braidmount Midnight Lady JW.  Another who I have admired from the ring-side.  At 3 years of age she is maturing nicely.  Balanced feminine head with correct eye shape and colouring.  Straight front, clean neck of moderate length and well placed shoulders, super body proportions, balanced throughout. Excellent width to strong muscular hindquarters which showed as she powered round the ring.

3. Naylor & Morrison's Bardonhill Singing Skies Over Anlory JW.

OB (6)

1.Naylor & Morrison's Sh Ch Anlory Carmenere  JW.  Have judged this young lady before having given her BPIS.  At 3 years of age she is starting to mature nicely, and I feel there is yet more to come.  Feminine head with dark well shaped eye.  Strong, muscular well arched neck leading to well laid-back shoulders.  Nice body proportions throughout.  Well angulated hindquarters with plenty of muscle, correct tail-set, firm top-line which she held on the move.  Drives with enthusiasm around the ring.  Presented in good condition with a rich dark chestnut coat.

2.  Hinslea's Sh Ch Northamber Causin A Riot JW  Lots to like about this nicely matured lady..  Pretty head with kind expression and well shaped eye.  Straight front with good fore-chest.  Clean, moderate length to neck, and correct shoulder placement.   Nicely constructed throughout with excellent depth of chest and spring of rib.  Strong, muscular hindquarters which allowed her to move with positive driving action around the ring.  Her rich shiny dark coat completed the picture.

3.  Rose-Hay's Applegrove Stella By Starlight at Cataluna (Imp)

thinking caps on and produce a photo.

This will be a competition, open to all setters: Irish,
English, Irish Red and White and Gordon.

This Competition will be kindly sponsored by June Walsh (Millcroft)

More details  about entering will follow in a few weeks.
