Critique - Judge: Mrs Rosemary E A Rose-Hay (Cataluna)

I Wish To Thank The Exhibitors For Their Entries –It Was Much Appreciated  I Would Also Thank My Steward, Who Ran My

Ring So Efficiently.

IRISH SETTERS

I Will Make My Comments In An Overall Critique.  I Have Been Most Concerned For A While With The Poor Conformation That Is Appearing –With All The Information Available At Seminars Etc.,  It Seems  Is Just  Not Getting Through To Exhibitors.  There Were A Number Of Upright Shoulders – It Begins With Straight Upper Arm And Then Moves Into A Straight Shoulder Blade – This Means The Withers Are Set High Up –Giving The Dog No Room To Step Out – I.E. A Short Front Action.

This Compounded With A Steep Croup And You Then Have An Incorrect Stride – Which Can Be Check Whilst In Profile Movement. You Can See The Back Foot Fall Is In Front Of The Front Foot Fall – Consequently There Is No Way A Driving Action Or Even One With Any Strength At All Is Possible. These Problems Give These Raking Top Lines That Ones Sees In The Line-Ups. There Were Quite A Few Sickle Hocks – Where The Hock Is Slanted Down And Inwards – Again With This ThereIs No Possibility Of A Driving Action Whatsoever. It Also Seems To Me That Sternum Is Becoming A Dirty Word In Irish –This Is Something That Will Have To Be Addressed  If We Are To Improve On Overall Conformation .

The Presentation And Handling Was Very Good – In Fact We Are Concentrating So Much On This I.E. Lovely Coats And Condition Of Coat That We Are Forgetting That An Irish Is, And Should Be, Classed As A Working Dog.  I Love The Beautiful Coat Of An Irish – But I Require That Beneath The Coat The Anatomy Is Correct.  I Was Looking For A Moderate, Well Balanced Dog With Correct Movement, And No Exaggerations.   I Felt That With My Placings I Achieved This.

Anthony & Stuart's Cordarragh Solitaire  7 ½ Month Youngster – Liked Him – Lots Of Potential – Movement A Little Erratic,  Preferred His Head And Expression To 1. Very Promising

Loughlin's Thendara Jefferson Among Rohanmor  Impressive Outline, Just Not Spring Or Depth Of Rib Of 1 – Good Quarters, Moved Steadily. Head Properties very Pleasing.
