Critique - Judge - Chris Sheldon
It was a great pleasure to judge at this prestigious Club Show & I would like to thank the exhibitors who brought their bitches for me to judge today.
The day was a hot sunny day and some of the dogs were able to cope better than others in the humid conditions. As could be expected, it made it much more difficult for me to see the true expressions of the exhibits & for some, movement was definitely hindered by the heat. That said, I was very pleased with my line up at the end of the day and there were several lovely class winners that I considered for top honours.
My Bitch CC winner was awarded Best in Show on the referee's decision, my RCC winner was awarded Reserve Best in Show and my winner of Veteran was best Veteran in Show. My Best Puppy Bitch was just 6 months old and gave her all at the end of a long day but lost out on maturity to the Puppy Dog who was Best Puppy in Show.
Minor Puppy Bitch (13 Entries, Abs: 0)
1st: FRAMPTONS Strathmead Penny Whistle
Gorgeous feminine 6 month old baby, pretty head with lovely low ear set, very well balanced in all departments, good front, deep chest, nice bend of stifle, deep chestnut coat with nice texture, moved happily & soundly. Best Puppy Bitch
2nd: NAYLORS Anlory Living Water
Lovely type, had it all to look at, just right for an 8 month old puppy, especially liked her dark coat colour gleaming in the sunshine, very pretty head with nice finish to foreface, good deep chest & front, nice feet, good quarters & tailset. She moved sufficiently well for me to see her soundness but did not want to co-operate with her handler in the heat. I forgave her this because of her overall quality.
3rd: ROWLES Zendarric Arizona Sunset
Puppy Bitch (9 Entries Abs: 1)
1st: ROWLES Zendarric Arizona Sunset
Pretty bitch with lovely shaped dark eyes giving a melting expression. She was 3rd in a strong minor puppy class and is a sound well-made young lady who moves with drive for such a youngster. She has a good deep chest, strong topline and good tail set.
2nd: LONGBOTTOM & STEWART-RICHIES Gwendariff Gonna Be Special
Similar body properties to 1 but I just preferred the head & expression on my winner. Another steady mover. Coat of lovely colour & texture & her furnishings are coming on nicely.
3rd: HENSONS Millcroft Crystal Moon Makes Tatsbro
Junior Bitch (13 Entries Abs: 4)
1st: POLLARDS Grayrigge Beatrice
Super dark coated typy bitch, very pretty head with dark eye, kind expression and lovely finish to foreface. She is well balanced throughout with good topline, deep chest, nice hindquarters and bend of stifle. Moved very steadily with verve.
2nd: HERONS Caskeys Delphine
Another appealing bitch of good type and similar to 1, balanced body properties, deep chest, good reach of neck into laid back shoulders with good topline and tailset. Sound mover
3rd: DANKS-KEMISH Alofran Copacabana
Yearling Bitch (12 Entries Abs: 2)
1st: HUMPHREYS Henaleas Carry On Flirting
Real quality bitch, exquisite head and expression, super dark mahogany coat in lovely condition, well boned, deep chest, super topline & tailset, Nice bend of stifle. She looked a picture in profile and her handler oozed the best out of this young lady who should have a very bright future.
2nd: BERRY & MORRIS'S Brinara Briet
Different type to 1, very racy elegant bitch, pretty with dark eye, lovely neck into well placed shoulders, nice topline, well bent stifles, moved steadily.

Special Beginners Bitch (2 Entries Abs 0)

3rd GRAYDONS Follidown Meadow Saffron at Eringold
Graduate Bitch (12 Entries Abs: 4)
1st: HALL'S Shenanagin Stardrift at Glennara JW
My notes say that 1 & 2 are of a similar shape, not surprising as they are litter sisters. Both have the overall body properties that I was looking for. Very stylish and sound. I am sure these litter sisters will change places many times but today I picked my winner on her head and beautiful coat.
2nd:LIMPUS'S Shenanagin She's the One for Karidell JW
Very sweet bitch, slightly sleeker all over than 1st place and not in such good coat but great overall shape. Moved steadily.
3rd: BRADY'S Reddins Frolic Among Amberlight
Postgraduate Bitch (20 Entries Abs: 2)
1st: ELKINS Avacet Snowbird
Very elegant feminine bitch, dark coated, well balanced & of lovely type. Nice deep chest, good reach of neck , strong topline, well bent stifles, Moved very soundly. She is maturing steadily and has great potential.
2nd: WALSH Millcroft Ballad of the Moon JW
I judged this girl as a puppy and still like her a lot. She has an exquisite head with kind dark eye & melting expression, lovely low set ears, good neck & shoulders, excellent body properties and beautiful coat in colour & texture. She was not moving with as much verve as my winner today.
3rd:ROWLES: Zendarric Colour of Magic
Minor Limit Bitch ( 9 Entries Abs:4)
1st WATERTONS Lynwood Kissed by an Angel at Sandstream JW
This was a very strong class & all could change places on another day. I was judging critically and my winner won on her positive rear movement. Very feminine bitch, good deep chest, lovely length of neck which flowed into well laid back shoulders, super topline & tailset. Perfect weight giving a well proportioned shape with lovely coat of correct colour and in gleaming condition. Moved well with drive.
2nd CATLINGS Shandwick Star Shine at Teleri JW
Another stunning bitch with a really feminine head. So classy and well made, always wants to do everything to please her handler. Similar body properties to my winner but today her movement was not as positive which may well have just been down to the conditions of the day.
3rd LOHKAMPS Copper's Bubble of Joy
Mid Limit Bitch (10 Entries Abs: 4)
1st: HUNTER & BROWN'S Braidmount Midnight Lady JW
Another girl I have judged before and have liked. She is very nicely constructed and of super type. She has a lovely overall shape with good front, strong topline, well bent stifles, super tailset. Had to move well to win over another very nice bitch
2nd: NAYLOR, & MORRISONS Bardonhill Singing Skies over Anlory JW
Beautiful bitch, very well constructed & so much to like about her. She seemed to be feeling the heat more than my winner so did not move so positively.
3rd: MUGFORDS Lynwood Started with a Kiss JW.
Limit Bitch (12 Entries Abs: 2)
1st: ROBERTS & BYE: Colanme Confection
Very good class. Loved this bitch who flowed from top to tail. Sweet head & expression, nice deep chest & length to body, good strong top line, well-angulated & good bend of stifle, she moved soundly round the ring. Certainly a contender for the top awards.
2nd: SCHLOMER-WOUTERS Femmefatal of the Goldenvale
A quality stylish bitch of lovely type. Very elegant with pretty feminine head. She has very good body properties with no exaggerations. Super neck & shoulders, good front & deep chest, good quarters which she used to move steadily & soundly.
3rd: GISBYS Balbriggan Ace of Hearts by Sutersett
Open Bitch (10 Entries Abs: 1)
1st: CHORLEY-NEWTON & CHORLEYS Sh Ch Outfoxed By Kerryfair JW
This girl filled my eye today. She did n't put a foot wrong and certainly wasn't feeling the heat as much as her handler! She is such a nice type of bitch, so feminine with a very classic head of perfect shape, lovely dark, kind eye and nicely finished muzzle.. She oozes quality, has well balanced body properties & today she just owned the ring. CC & BIS
2nd: NAYLOR & MORRISONS Sh Ch Anlory Carmenere JW
Another really well made bitch. So much to like about her and she only lost out on top honours by a slight lack of glamour when coming up against 1. She is so sound and well balanced and has a beautiful head and expression. She moved soundly with drive. RCC & RBIS
3rd: WATTS Sh Ch Shenanagin Shooting Star
Veteran Bitch (10 Entries Abs: 0)
1st: POLLARD & COOKS Grayrigge Maeve JW
Couldn't believe this girl was a veteran. A beautiful bitch, deep chest, good front, neck & shoulders. Strong topline, using her tail well as she moved round the ring with drive. In lovely coat & condition. BVIS
2nd: BARKER-BELLS Balintyne Homeward Bound
A proper oldie, awarded her place in this strong veteran class on her lovely body properties, lovely shape, everything in the right place and a very sweet feminine head. Being rather awkward for her handler but why not at her age!! Loved her character.
