Bournemouth Championship Show 15 August 2011

Overall I was pleased with the quality of the entry,  in some of the higher classes exhibits went cardless who, on another day  could have taken top honours. However I did find some heads rather short and deep. Irish should be long and lean in head, not a Gordon Setter head. I also found a number of light eyes and bites a little too close for comfort.

1. Lucas Kerryfair Gets Lucky over Amberlight

Racy Puppy, balanced head with desired length of foreface. Good shaped eye with soft expression. Straight front on good legs. Clean in neck and shoulder, gentle turn of stifle. Moved very well for age holding topline

2. Bouttell & Humphrey Ixia Joseph

Heavier puppy all through, but nonetheless pleasing, Stronger shorter and deeper head than first, dark eye and soft expression. Strong legs. Good feet. Deep in rib, well back. Dark coat, moved well.

PUPPY DOG (8, 1)

1. Pollard & Cook Grayrigge Benedict Best Puppy PG 3.

Pretty well chiselled headed puppy with dark eye and kind expression. Straight in front, well ribbed back for age, neat feet. Nicely angulated fore and aft. In good coat and colour Moved well with reaching action.

2. Stocker Kirkavagh Xakala

Heavier in head than first, which doesn’t need to develop further. Dark eye, well ribbed, gently angulated quarters. Moved well.

This young man really took my eye. Upstanding masculine young boy with a pleasing head, strong neck into good shoulder. Good length and depth to ribs. Straight front. In good coat and colour. Not overdone in any way. Moved soundly

2. Richardson kirkavagh Hernando

Prettier young man than first with desired length of foreface and dark eye. Deep in ribs for age. Straight legs and neat feet. Well angulated quarters in good coat and colour. Just out of puppy

YEARLING DOG (6,0)

1. Drinkwater Brabrook Shanavas

Pleasing head with no heaviness. Straight in front, good legs and forechest. Dark coated, steady on the move. Still a young dog who is immature and needs more time.

2. Williams Kirkavagh Wayward Lad

More mature in body and coat than first, but not as good in front. Pleasing head and eye, coat could be darker. Moved OK.

Dark coated dog, unplaced in puppy. Neat feet, gently angulated quarters. Rather sloppy on the move

UNDERGRADUATE DOG (7, 1)

1. Jones & Vatcher Wynjill Farmers Boy

Well presented young dog in gleaming coat. Nice head with soft expression. Straight front, firm topline on the move. Good legs and feet. Very well handled

2. Thompson Rappatty Casanova

Bigger dog than winner with dark coat. Dark eye with soft expression. Good forechest and deep ribs. Not so steady on the move

1. Gratton Bardonhill Floating Moon Into Glenlaine

Impressive dog presented in glorious coat. Head of desired length and depth, dark eye with kind expression. Slightly longer in loin than I‘d prefer. Straight front with good legs and feet. Moved well with good reaching movement.

2. Pullen & Atkin Harvancourt Harlem at Jacingail

Heavier in head than first, but still has kind expression. Straight front, strong quarters. Dark well coated, moved with drive, but rather proud of his tail which made decision

POST GRADUATE DOG ( 12, 2)

1. Hogarth Avacet Snow Drift

Well balanced head with kind eye and expression. Good legs. Gently angulated quarters. In good coat. Steady mover holding topline.

2. Needs Covarney Mocha Meets Stourford

Close between these two and disappointed that this boy didn’t move so well today which made decision. Good head, not overdone, dark eye. Well angulated front, deep in ribs. Dark coat.

Close decisions in this quality class. This dog possesses the most glorious well balanced head with the kindest expression. Strong clean neck set into well angled shoulders. Strong legs, neat feet. Ribs deep and well back. Well angulated quarters, gently sloping topline. In good coat. Steady mover. Dog without exaggeration in any way. An honour to award CC

2. Mugford Copper’s Undercover at Lynwood

This dog is now starting to look his best. Not the head of winner. Lovely outline with deep ribs and very good forechest. Agequate rear angulation, strong legs and neat feet. In good coat and moved very well RCC

Close up but preferred the head of first, would prefer darker eye. Strong neck set into clean shoulders, straight front, good legs and feet. Strong quarters. In good coat, moved well with good reaching action.

Pretty bitch with gentle expression, straight front, good legs, ribs. In good coat. Moved soundly

Pretty headed bitch with desired length to foreface and dark eye. Straight in front, deep ribs, well angulated quarters. Good bone. In lovely coat of good colour. Moved so steadily with drive for one so young. BPB

Liked this puppy very much also, but not quite so steady at present. Pretty well chiselled head with dark eye. Straight in front with good legs and feet. Not quite the quarters of first at present, just needs time. Moved quite well

Pleasing bitch with pretty head. Good ribs, straight front, good legs and feet. In good coat. Moved steadily

What a little star this bitch is, so unexaggerated. Lovely outline, so clean in neck and shoulder with correct angulation. Pretty head with correct length and depth to foreface, raised brows and soft expression. Moved with style and drive. Gave way to more mature bitches today but her time will come.

2. Pollard Grayrigge Rosalind

Liked the shape of this bitch also. Good head, length and depth with dark eye. Good angles fore and aft. In good coat. Not so positive on the move.

Close up. Stylish bitch with lovely head. Clean neck and shoulders, strong quarters, moved with style, just a little close behind.

1. Waterton Lynwood Kissed by an Angel at Sandstream

Close between these two. Pretty headed bitch with dark eye and slightly naughty expression. Strong neck, clean shoulder, deep ribs well back. Well bent stifle, moved well. In good coat.

2. Douthwaite & Wharfe Gracewood Shannon

Most pleasing in outline. Good length to foreface, dark eye with raised brow. Good forechest, good front and rear angles. In good coat. Moved well with firm topline.

Difficult class of quality bitches and splitting hairs. First had the edge on movement, driving from strong quarters holding firm topline. Good head, but not quite for me, dark eye and correct ear set. Strong neck into well laid shoulders, deep ribs. In good condition, but not best coat.

 2. Waddell Riquitta Shillelagh Gold at Wishingtree

Always liked this bitch and done well for her. Not in her best muscular condition today. Balanced head with dark eye. Good in neck and shoulder, nicely angulated quarters. In good coat moved soundly

What a class! I felt honoured and humbled by the number and quality of these beautiful bitches. It is a long time since I saw such an Open bitch class. What a headache, but decisions had to be made. I’ve never seen this bitch look so well, she has such a lovely head, with desired length and chiselling to foreface, raised brows, dark eye. Strong arched neck into clean shoulders. Straight front, good legs and feet. Deep ribs, well back, strong wide quarters with correct angulation. Firm topline held on the move. Moved with reach and drive with wonderful tail action. CC BOB

2. Powis Amberwave Freckles

Not quite the head for me but so well balanced and chiselled with dark eye. Strong arched neck into gently sloping shoulder. Straight front, good legs and feet, ribs well back. Wide quarters but not quite the angulation of first. In super condition. Moved with good action holding her topline. RCC
