Critique - Judge Dogs: David Pike (Redclyst/Glenury)

Thank you to the exhibitors for a real quality entry; it was an honour and a privilege to have an opportunity to go over so many top quality dogs. Also congratulations to the Boston committee for running such a well organised show.

Minor Puppy Dog 8 entries (1 absent)

1. Northends- Bransmere Secret Seal: - This six month old puppy is well matured for his age, very nice type, pleasing in head and expression, strong arched neck, with a correct top line and croup.

2. Prangles Heathclare Moet Magic:-: Finer than 1, well balanced with good all round conformation, pleasing head with a nice dark eye.

3. Naylor & Morrisons Anlory Matard.

Puppy Dog 9 entries

1. Fulls Blaysdell Killarney at Teignestuary: - Upstanding dog soft gentle expression with no coarseness in the skull. Pleasing well arched neck which flowed nicely into a gentle sloping top line with a good tail finish from the croup. Moved steady. Best Puppy Dog

2. Humphreys Henaleas Uptown Flirt at Branstorm: - I like the head and expression of this dog soft gentle expression with good dark eye, good oval skull with a defined occiput. Excellent reach of neck which flowed into well laid shoulders and as in 1 correct top line.

3, Prangles Heathclare Moet Magic.

Junior Dog 2 entries (3 absent)

1. Rances Mayfield Mr Magnifico: - Well balanced dog Pleasing head and expression well bodied with a nice deep chest, good upper arm construction, pleasing rich chestnut colour.

2. Barker Bells Balintyne the Continental: - A racy dog with plenty of bone and substance for one so young Pleasing head which is long and lean with no sign of coarseness good dark eye and low set ears, move well covering the ground well. Not got the overall balance of 1.

Special Yearling 13 entries (2 absent)

1. Pullen and Atkins Harvancourt Harlem at Jacingail: - Very pleasing dog presented in good condition. Typical Irish expression with a long lean head no sign of coarseness pleasing dark eye, Strong powerful arched neck which flowed into well laid shoulders and a gently sloping top-line. Correct upper arm angulation Moved very positively covering the ground well.

2. Gisby and Pike’s Suttersett Milky Way with Scarletti; - Very close to 1 and could easily change places on another day, Slightly shorter coupled dog, Excellent top line and tail set. Pleasing head with lots of work giving a typical Irish expression. Moved with drive covering the ground well.

3. Willliams & Bozier Millcroft Poachers Moon of Victoriaview

Graduate Dog 12 entries (5 absent)

1. Partridges Kerrydown My Guy JW: - A striking dog that held his presence well in the ring catching your eye as soon as he entered. Typical Irish head with correct almond shape dark eyes under raised brows which gives him a quizzical intelligent expression. Good stop, moderately depth of muzzle with correct clean flews not pendulous. Strong arch shape neck into correct laid back shoulders. Very good front construction with correct upper arm angulation. Excellent spring of rib and depth of brisket. Gently sloping top line with correct tail set. Moved covering the ground with purpose free flowing with drive. CC and BOB.

2. Withney’s Bridgella’s Northern Light: - A very close decision here between 2 and 3, scored over 3 on expression with lovely raised brows which gave him a typical melting setter expression. As with 1 very good front and rear angulation which he used to his advantage in covering the ground.

1. Chorley-Newton & Chorley;s Kerryfair Snow Fox JW :- Well constructed balanced dog, exceptionally good expression with a pleasing dark eye and defined raised brows, nicely balanced head Good reach of neck with correct front angulation. Good bend of stifle onto nice low set hock to heel. Moved very well with positive movement strongly considered for the RCC.

2. Millian’s Landscott Going for Gold: - A striking dog pleasing in head with a soft gently melting expression good defined stop, correct low set ears. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, with a good masculine loin slightly arched. Good honest dog not exaggerated in any way.

3. Botts Bardonhill Grinning Bear

1. Mugfords Coppers Undercover at Lynwood (imp SWE) JW: - A quality dog medium build but very nicely balanced. Very good in head correctly balanced correct eye shape and colour. Good front angulation with no exaggerations, correct depth of chest and spring of rib. Very strong on the back end with a good bend of stifle. Correct small firm feet, well arched toes which were tight and close together.

2. Higgitts Tatsbro Firestone: - A nice soft gentle expression, head was nicely balanced throughout with no exaggerations. Powerful well arched neck into correct laid back shoulders. Good angulation front and rear, moved with purpose and drive.

1. Danks-Kemish: - Tiroen Time After Time for Alolfran JW SH CM: - This dog represented to me a picture of a handsome, refined in looks and racy Irish setter. Presented today in outstanding coat and condition, nicely balanced throughout. Good head with that typical Irish expression soft and gentle. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders and a gently sloping top line. Correct tail set carried level with his top line carried well on the move. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. RCC

2. Bott & Morgan’s SH CH Ember Gene Simmons Sings Quensha (IMP):- This is a nicely balanced dog with no exaggerations. Very good head and expression with correct low set ears. Good angulation front and rear which he used to his advantage on the move.

3. Milligan-Bott & Botts SH CH Scoteslaw Detroit Spinner by Thendara.
