Critique - Judges - Dogs: Mrs S Sturrock (Forfarian)

My first judging appointment at this level which I thoroughly enjoyed topped off by our B.o.B going Best in Show.

Veteran Dog (1, 0 abs)

1^st Mrs M Davies  Sh.Ch.Lochfrae Ralph Lauren JW Sh Cm.  Well balanced dog with good substance. Lovely head with raised brows and good stop. Good length of neck leading to correct  firm topline and correct tailset.  Well bent stifle. Moved better in his class than in the challenge. BVD

Minor Puppy Dog (6, 3 abs)

1^st Ms S Randles Rionore Fire N’Ice.  Medium sized puppy. Pleasant head with lots of work.  Strong arched neck, good topline, short coupled and a little short in croup, deep chest. Good colour, moved steadily.

2^nd Mrs D Ross, Drumwhaur Sequoia Gold. Rangier pup at moment, scored over his litter brother with steadier movement. Long lean head, good eye shape, enough stop, not the depth of 1 and longer cast, good tailset and well bent stifle.

3^rd Mrs D & Miss L Christie. Drumwhaur Irish Gold

Puppy Dog ( 7, 2 abs)

1^st Mrs J Hannah. Fetteresk Snow Patrol. Upstanding dog, strong head, broad skull, good topline leading to correct tailset. Correct upper arm angulation and well bent stifle. Didn’t cooperate with handler but saw enough to win class. BPD

2^nd Ms S Randle Rionore Fire N’Ice

3^rd Mrs L Ward. Bardonhill The Hustler Conning Copperwhite

Junior Dog (9, 3abs)

1^st Mrs C Sheldon Balintyne Foreign Intrique at Delsanto. Balanced dog, pleasing head, enough brow, good eye colour, deep flews. Scored on strong neck with well laid shoulders, enough return of upper arm.  Firm gently sloping topline followed by correct tailset. Nice tight feet.

2^nd Miss T Gardners Mayfred Mr Moondance.  Preferred head and expression of winner.  Well bodied with deep chest, good front, gleaming coat, moved ok. Also had nice feet.

3^rd Mr B Poppleton’s Brinara Hanson.

Yearling Dog (12, 4abs)

1^st Mrs M Ross’s Kettlehills Star Trouper.  Upstanding dog with pleasant head, slightly broad skull but good tight eye with nicely raised brows.  Well arched strong neck leading to good shoulders, firm topline but slightly low tailset.  Well bent stifle and shorter from hock to heel.  Good coat colour and condition,  again lovely neat feet. Moved steadily.

2^nd Miss J Greenan’s Anlory The Living Daylights Over Juleset JW.  Well balanced dog, slightly smaller than winner, appealed for type but was very uncooperative with handler today.  Lovely dark eye with enough work in skull, nicely arched neck leading to good shoulders followed by firm, sloping topline.  Not the rear angulation of 1 but again short from hock to heel.

3^rd Mrs I Rowan’s Lotushill Masterclass

Novice Dog (4, 1abs)

1^st Miss T Gardners Mayfred Mr Moondance

2^nd Mr B Poppletons Brinara Hanson. Smaller dog. Nice head, with slightly narrower skull, low set ears but would prefer a darker eye. Firm sloping topline with good tailset. Not so strong in rear.

3^rd Mr & Mrs Cohen’s Brabrook Mastercraftsman with Shushana

Graduate Dog (4, 1 abs)

1^st Ms K Vallance’s Braidmount Midnight Roue.  Medium sized balanced dog who scored over 2 in head and correct forehand angulation. Good shaped skull, low set ears and adequate depth to muzzle, good width to nostrils.  Straight front, another with nice tight feet.  Would prefer slightly more slope to topline. Moved steadily.

2^nd Mrs J Buchan’s Loskeran Dream Maker. Pleasant head although slightly stronger than 1. Strong arched neck, shorter in rib and didn’t hold topline as well as 1.  Well bent stifle and good tailset. Well presented.

3^rd  Mr & Mrs Hunter’s Samtesuz Scriptwriter.

Post Graduate Dog (9, 1abs)

1^st   Mrs & Miss Chorley-Newton & Chorley’s Keryfair Snow Fox JW.  Compact dog with the best of heads. Clean skull with lovely raised brows and dark eye, good width to nostrils, and low set ears. Strong arched neck leading to correct ly laid back shoulders. Excellent front and topline finished by correct tailset.  Shorter coupled with moderate rear angulation. Presents a very balanced picture, moved steadily. RCC

2^nd  Ms F O’Donnell’s Sabrejill Classic Rock from Rain Valley.  Good head, skull broad but not coarse, dark eye.  Strong neck and firm topline, slightly short in croup. Handler tended to set him up a bit wide in front.

3^rd  Mrs M Davie’s Lochfrae Aviator

Limit Dog (10, 1 abs)

Splitting hairs between 1 and 2, preferred expression of winner which just gave him the edge.

1^st Miss T Gardner’s Riqitta Authentic.  Medium sized dog who presents a balanced picture.  Strong neck with enough arch. Good shoulders and straight front, would like a little more strength to pasterns.  Firm topline and good tailset, enough rear angulation. Was a bit erratic when moving in the challenge.

2^nd Ms Hunter & Mr Brown’s Shenanagin Scholar with Braidmount JW.  Masculine head with good eye shape and wide nostrils, well low set on ears. Muscular arched neck leading to clean shoulders, gently sloping topline finished with a correct tailset.  Good width of thigh and well bent stifle. Moved well.

3^rd Ms I McNeil’s Glencarron Shakatak.

Open Dog (6, 0abs)

1^st  CC, BoB & BIS. Mrs C McLarnon’s Sh.Ch.Ir.Sh.Ch.Northamber Just Cause for Glenavna. Pleasing balanced head, with correct eye shape, good stop and nicely finished muzzle. Good length of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, correct return of upper arm, good straight front. Gently sloping topline finished with correct tailset. Good length of rib giving plenty depth. Excellent tight arched feet.  Presented in gleaming condition. Moved well in class and challenge but excelled himself in the BIS ring to go Best in Show. Well done.

2^nd Mrs D Milligan–Bott & Mr J Bott’s Sh.Ch. Scotslaw Detroit Spinner Bi Thendara JW. Not a big dog but everything in proportion. Refined head with lovely correct shaped eye and low set ears.  Strong arched neck fitting well into good shoulders with enough return of upper arm.   Longer cast  with not quite the spring of rib of 1.  Lovely coat and condition. Moved well. Considered for Res CC, just lost his enthusiasm in the challenge.

3^rd Mrs Shaw-Rainey & Mr  Rainey’s Ir.Sh.Ch.Trawricka High Jinks at Starchelle (Imp).
