Gundog Society of Wales Championship Show 13 October 2010 - Bitches
Critique - Judges - Bitches - Mrs Rachel Shaw-Rainey (Starchelle)
Was thrilled with the quality of my entry. Some lovely bitches that filled my eye and my heart and the minor puppy, yearling and post grad classes were particularly hot. Considered yearling, post grad and mid limit bitches for top honours so impressed was I but they just lacked the grandeur and finish of the limit and open winners.
MP (13/1)
1st Humphreys’ Henaleas Carry on Flirting. BP. Super youngster, excellent bone and substance for age, well put together and balanced. Lovely head and expression, low set ears, oval skull and raised brows. Rich chestnut coat, strong quarters and sound and steady mover.
2nd Leach’s Wickenberry Serenade. Most beautiful head on this baby, good over neck and shoulders, good bone and substance, very elegant and close up to 1st.
3rd Reed’s Tatterslee Athena.
P (7/1)
1st T Athena. 3rd in MP and also close to first two. Super body, balanced and proportionate for age, great bone, head breaking, free flowing movement.
2nd Muir’s Romarne Savannah. 4th in MP another good youngster with strong bone and good depth through body. Super coat and moved well.
3rd Tapper’s Kedalita Aeracura.
Junior (9/2)
1st Catling’s Shandwick Star Shine at Teleri. Well her star certainly is shining, she is gorgeous. Lovely type, super body properties and in great condition. Fabulous racy outline, correct head properties and a sweet expression, well schooled and showed beautifully.
2nd Weller’s Suteresett Wispa at Juldeane. Loved this bitch as well and very close to 1st. Racy outline, everything in the right place, super head, long and lean with correct earset and eyes. Lovely coat of rich chestnut, strode out well.
3rd Leach’s Irishpearl of the Travelin Star.
Yearling (10)
1st Limpus’s Shenanagin She’s the One for Karidell. This bitch is all quality and I was most impressed. Racy outline, sinewy bone, combining elegance and substance. Long lean head with correct oval skull, soft expression and good finish to muzzle. Loved her outline and held her gently sloping topline standing and moving, classy girl.
2nd Bell & Barker-Bell’s Avonfarm Balintyne on Broadway. Another one I admired. Super outline, racy and feminine, also elegant with substance and correct topline, straight chestnut coat, strode out with great style.
3rd Griffin’s Corriebran Rare Ruby.
Novice (9/1)
1st C Rare Ruby. 3rd in Yearling. Liked this young lady, super over neck and shoulders, lean refined head, kind expression and good finish to flew. Racy outline, gently sloping topline standing and moving, gleaming chestnut coat.
2nd Irishpearl of the Travlin Star. Liked the type of this girl, quite raw but has great scope, super head with hint of naughtiness in her expression. Racy outline and excellent quarters. Be interested to see her in a year’s time. Moved well.
3rd Stevens’ Brabrook Wild Rose at Follybrook.
UGrad (3/1)
1st Humphreys’ Millcroft Moongem of Henaleas. Not placed in previous class and gave her handler a hard time, has a real mind of her own as you can see in her mischievous expression. Has lots to like about her, racy and feminine and moved OK.
2nd Swainston’s Glenvarna Garbo. Also not placed in earlier class. Good bone and substance, pleasant head and sweet expression, strong body, good quarters, moved nicely.
Grad (7/3)
1st Waterton’s Lynwood Kissed by an Angel at Sandstream. What a sweet head and angelic expression she has, wonder if she is? Ultra feminine, racy outline, super neck and shoulders, good sternum and depth of chest, well developed rear quarters and moved true.
2nd Warner’s Tamwood Thank You. Super type, great substance without losing elegance, very pretty head, lovely dark eye, good neck and shoulders, correct topline, good quarters, free flowing movement.
3rd Roberts’ Polennor Willow Pattern.
Post Grad (15/4)
1st Barker-Bell’s Balintyne Luck be a Lady. Like this bitch very much, great type and size, free and easy mover. Head is charming and whole picture is balanced. Good angulation both fore and aft and firm well muscled quarters. In super glossy rich chestnut coat just needs the feathering now to complete the picture of a super racy setter.
2nd Meadows’ Gwendariff Miss Whiplash. Quality girl with a delightful head, she is well put together, short coupled, strong body, in first class condition, gorgeous coat and free mover.
3rd Douthwaite & Wharfe’s Balintyne Lucky Charm for Gracewood.
Mid Limit (5/1)
1st Powis’ Amberwave Freckles. Built on classic lines, strong but elegant body, gently sloping topline, flowed from her nose to her correct tail set. Stood over the ground well and moved with drive.
2nd Berry & Morris’s Brinara Winter Cherry. Close up to 1st, like this bitch too. Sweet head, racy outline, great bone, strong loin to good quarters. Lovely chestnut coat in good condition, moved out well.
3rd Andrews’ Bambarella Love Story.
Limit (10/5)
1st Evans’s Brabrook Titanias Dream at Neathamill RCC. Superb mature bitch, everything flowed, has all the breed characteristics required and loved her elegance and style. Long lean head with sweet expression, correct finish to flew, low earset, strong neck into well laid shoulders, excellent front and rear angulation, super rich coat. Handled to great advantage and flowed on the move striding out with a lashing tail.
2nd Hall’s Glennara Lehana. Very much the elegant type this breeder produces. Adorable head, ultra feminine, gentle expression, good angles, gently sloping topline to correct tailset, moved with forward reach and drive from the rear.
3rd Griffin’s Corriebran Pure Gem.
Open (5/1)
1st Stewart-Ritchie’s IrShCh Gwendariff Ms Dynamite. CC. A glorious showgirl with fabulous ring presence. Classical head of great beauty with exquisitely raised brows over dark expressive eyes, chiselling under her eyes, and a wide open nose, shapely flews, ears low set which enhances her correct oval shaped skull, arched neck to well laid shoulders fine at points, strength through her body, good spring of rib, short coupled by strong loin to shapely quarters. She felt amazing as I went over her, her muscles were firm, her coat was silky and gleamed with health. On the move she excelled, her superb condition enabled her to move with great drive and panache, head up, tail lashing, just a delight to watch, truly free flowing and effortless movement, absolutely textbook.
2nd Evans’ Brabrook Marbela. Well made bitch of good type and much to like. Long, lean head with dark almond shape eyes. First class body, correct topline, lovely mover.
3rd Rose-Hay’s Applegrove Stella by Starlight by Cataluna.
Veteran (2/1)
1st Waterton’s Lynwood Strands of Silk at Sandstream. 9 years old and her super condition is a credit to her owner. Excellent outline, loveliest of heads, and she moved out wonderfully. A real pleasure to go over.
