City of Birmingham Canine Association 5 September 2010

Critique - Judge: Mrs Rita Pike (Scarletti)

Many thanks for the hospitality shown by the City of Brmingham Ch Show and I would also like to thank my efficient stewards for their support and patience on a long day.

Why when taking so much effort to present an exhibit are the nails forgotten.  On some exhibits they were unbelievably long giving the appearance of "hare feet" instead of  "cat like feet".  On a plus, thankyou for your super entry I felt so humbled in this current financial climate to be entrusted with this entry.  So many lovely dogs went cardless and it was spliiting hairs on the day.

 Veteran Dog (4 entries)

1st       Bott & Morgans SH CH EMBER GENE SIMMINS SINGS QUENSHA (IMP)

A really super start to my day.  An absolute credit to his owner for showing him in tip top condition.  He has a most pleasing head good neck and shoulders, firm front and good feet.  His overall outline is balanced with strong quarters moving round the ring with purpose and style. Considered for top honours.

2nd      Millan & Dance LANDSCOT RUSTIC BRACKEN

Like his type but not the positive movement or condition of 1st.

3rd       Wigfull & Hartley KONAKAKELA KINGSMAN

Minor Puppy Dog (8entries)

1st        Cardwells KIRKAVAGH THE WIZARD

Very nice baby really appealed to me, a bit unsettled by the noise at first but got his act together.  I liked his head and front construction, good quarters and croup finish super coat texture and he moved well.  Best puppy dog.

2nd      Botts BARDONHILL GAMBLIN WILLIE

Another nice baby.  Did not shown himself as well as 1st and tended to have the terrible "leans".  Owns a sweet head and has all the essentials for a baby will probably be a slow maturer but thats fine in this breed. Moved well.

3rd       Humphries & Oliver HENALEAS UPTOWN FLIRT AT BRAMSTORM

Puppy Dog (6 entries)

1st        Naylor & Morrison ANLORY BAROSSA

Liked his type he has a good head with dark eye and quizzical expression, well laid shoulders, gentle sloping topline with correct croup finish. Stands on good legs and feet  Clean all through and moved well to win this class.

2nd      Sheldons BALINTYNE FOREIGN INTRIGUE AT DELSANTO

Different make and shape of one, bigger and longer cast but he applealed to me. Has a soft gentle expression and kind eye when settled has a very pleasing topline super dark rich coat, moved well.

3rd       Botts BARDONHILL GAMBLIN WILLIE

Junior Dog (14 entries) (2 absent)

1st        Ciechonskas COPPERS CHAMPAGNE ON ICE AT AOIBHEANNE

Have admired this young dog since he made his show debut.  Super head and eye and earset into strong neck and well laid shoulders. Good front neat feet  nice depth with plenty of heart room.  Shown in great condition would like just a little more weight accross the loin but a lovely show specimen. Moved well today.

2nd      Lewis DEACONARA DANSE DE BLEU AVEC DOTCOMSETTER

I have to say this dog is not really my type but I couldnt overlook him for that reason only.  Stronger head than 1st  and well off for bone but has no faults as such and is so well presented in great condition and really covers the ground on the move. Superbly handled and shown to advantage.

3rd       Stubbs RIVERBRUE ZEUS

Special Yearling Dog (16 entries) (1 absent)

1st        Lauwers THENDARA FROZEN ASSET

Striking forward youngster with rich dark coat loved his overall outline when standing and did not disapoint on the move. Good head, neck and shoulders strong firm front and feet, lovely deep chest well ribbed, tucked loin and strong quarters.

2nd      McLarnons GLENAVNA JOURNEY SOUTH

Unfortunate to meet one today, a bit unsettled but such quality.  Has a really lovely head and eye, stands on good front and feet,  deep chest and strong loin, well angulated with short strong hocks which enabled him to motor around the ring.

3rd       Ciechonskas COPPERS CHAMPAGNE ON ICE AT AOIBHEANNE (imp)

Graduate Dog (14 entries) (1 absent)

1st        Chorley-Newtons KERRYFAIR SNOW FOX JW

I loved him last time I judged and I love the way he is slowly maturing into a handsome adult. He will take time but thats what this breed is all about.  Gorgeous type with the most handsome head with dreamy expression he flows from tip to toe with no exaggerations. Moved positively around the ring to easily secure this class.

2nd      Deis     BOAS CINAMMON'S

Upstanding dark and delicious dog knockout topline with a lovely head and quizzical expression.  Good properties all thru moved off strong muscled quarters and strong hocks keeping his topline on the move.

3rd       Walters DENEIL BREAKFAST IN BED

Post Graduate Dog (14 entries)  (1 absent)

1st        Edden & Crockers MEDWAY MORRISEY

I like type very much his head is gorgeous with a cheeky look he has expressive dark eyes lots of work so lacking in the breed today.  Super front and back assembly lovely balance all through moved with drive off well muscled quarters with tail lashing.  Super rich dark coat complements his qualities.

2nd      Gardners RIQITTA AUTHENTIC

Liked him very much,  Different to one in make and shape but really appeals.  Preferred head of winner, this youngster has presence and style together with well laid shoulders. good upper arm, strong legs and neat feet , depth of chest with well angulated quarters, in lovely coat he moved really well today.

3rd       Whittington & Whittingtons MARGRETWOODS COPY CAT

Limit Dog (13 entries) (2 absent)

1st        Hunter & Browns SHENANAGIN SCHOLAR WITH BRAIDMOUNT

Gorgeous dog.  Certainly gets himself noticed with his oh so mischievious expression and a twinkle in his eye.  Striking in outline and so sound in front, neat feet, well ribbed back,  good finish in croup did not stop wagging his tail, moved positively off well angulated quarters and short well bent hocks.  Looked a picture of health with his gleaming lustrous coat. Reserve CC.

2nd      Cuddy  BALBRIGGAN ROYAL REBEL

A favourite of mine, must have one of the best heads in the breed, such a soft and melting expression lots of eyebrow, dark expressive eyes, so sound fore and aft. Close up to one but just did'nt have the finish in coat that he needed today.  Scores in front assembly and strong wide quarters and overall balance. Moved with purpose and style.

3rd       Botts BARDONHILL GINGER WHINGER

Open Dog (6 entries) (1 absent)

1st        McLarnons SH CH & IR CH NORTHAMBER JUST CAUSE FOR GLENAVNA

What a treasure! Immediately caught my eye, staggeringly handsome and with so much ring presence.  Lucky me to be have the opportunity of judging him once again.  How he has matured into a near perfect specimen of the breed.  Beautifull balanced head with loads of work, super reach of neck into well laid shoulders, pronounced sternum, good length of upper arm, strong legs into neat well arched feet. Great spring of rib, super underline,  well muscled angulated quarters with strong short hocks, needless to say he flew around the ring with style and purpose really covering the ground.  Challenge Certificate, BOB and to my delight Gundog Group 1.

2nd      Milligan-Bott & Botts SH CH SCOTESLAW DETROIT SPINNER BI THENDARA

Lovely head and expression on this boy, longer in body than one and lower to the ground. He has all the qualities of a Show Champion and as always was presented in tip top condition his dark coat profuse and gleaming.   Moved steadily around the ring.

3rd       Lakes   CASKEYS CHECKMATE

Good Citizens Dog (2)

1st        Gladwishs GLENLAINE THE BEST MAN

Pleasing head on this dog with kind eye and expression. Nice type with pleasing profile, sound back and front, well presented and handled. Moved soundly.

2nd      Wigfull & Hartley ANLORY GOLDFINGER

A youngster who needs time liked his head and eye a little high on the leg at the moment but shows promise for the future. Moved well.

Veteran Bitch (6 entries) (2 absent)

1st        Mitchells COVARNEY WALTZING MATILDA

Pretty girl, loved her head and expression.  She has a good topline held on the move.  Well angulated fore and aft.  In really good condition.

2nd      Watertons LYNWOOD STRANDS OF SILK AT SANDSTREAM JW SH.CM
Very feminine racy bitch, appealing overall in topline and balance.  Sound in front and good strong hindquarters with short well bent hocks,  moved well.

3rd       Catlings HIGHCLARE MARY POPPINS

Minor Puppy Bitch (8 entries) (Absent 0)

1st        Muirs ROMARNE SAVANNAH

If this beautiful baby was chocolate I could have eaten her up. She is adorable.  Lovely balance for her age, most appealing head, rich dark coat and she moved so well.

2nd      Botts BARDONHILL GRANNY MAE

Lots to like about this baby, pretty head not so sure of the "big ring" but she has many qualities which will ensue a rosy future for her.  Moved well.

3rd       Humphreys HENLEAS CARRY ON FLIRTING

Puppy Bitch (7 entries) (Absent 3)

1st        Catlings SHANDWICK STAR SHINE AT TELERI

Well schooled puppy has a flowing topline showing balance and conformation,  a very pretty head and expressive eyes. Junior Bitch (19 entries) (absent 5)

2nd      Beatons KETTLEHILLS STAR PERFORMER

3rd in the strong Junior Class she is such a pretty girl.  Loved her splash of white, she has a true front although she needs strengthening in pasterns.  Good spring and depth in rib a stirking outline well angulated hind quarters.

3rd       Box FERNSTART LOVESONG

Graduate Bitch (13 entries) (Absent 4)

1st        Watertons LYNWOOD KISSED BY AN ANGEL AT SANDSTREAM JW

Maturing nicely this bitch is streamlined and racy in outline and stands over the ground.  Most prettiest of heads so feminine, long neck into well laid shoulders and good upper arm.  Strong legs and nice feet. Well angulated and good croup finish she  looks a picture standing and moving.  Just the right amount of body on her.

2nd      Hunter & Browns BRAIDMOUNT MIDNIGHT LADY JW

Slightly bigger bitch than one but very very nice.  Stronger in head but still feminine with lots of work and has the desired quizzical look .  Welll made fore and aft good finish to croup in lovely coat she carried herself effortlessly round the ring.

3rd       Naylor & Morrisons BARDONHILL LEAPING WATER OVER ANLORY

3rd       Roberts COLANME CONFECTION

Limit Bitch (23 entries) (absent 5)

 1st        Vants BARLEYDALE HAPPINESS JW

Head I adore. She has taken some time to come to her best.  Looking just great today, love her type. Great neck and shoulders and upper arm.  Straight front with pronounced sternum. She has terrific depth and spring of rib, plenty of heart room, excellent topline, strong quarters and short hocks. In lustrous coat she moved with purpose and drive using her tail.  Reserve Challenge Certificate.

2nd      Halls GLENNARA LEHANA JW SHCM

Loved her too, such a pretty head and expression, low, long ears she is looking great. Good front and back assembly, strong well muscled quarters.  Slightly longer cast than one but she can cover the ground with strong driving action.  Well handled and presented.

3rd       Hogsflesh LYNGOR LIVING WATER JW

Open Class Bitch (7 entries) (3 absent)

1st        Ciechonskas SH.CH. COPPERS CHAMPAGNE BUBBLE AT AOIBHEANNE JW (IMP)

Well what can I say - she was a star the moment she arrived on the show scene.  I have watched her from puppy to adulthood.  Last time she was'nt quite ready but today she stormed through.  The most wonderful head and expression that absolutely melted me, she has that look of devilment but at the same time can appear wistfull and soft. Low earset. Super neck and shoulders and upper arm return, altogether wonderful front assembly and depth and spring in rib.  Most appealing in topline and benefitted from the loss of a few pounds.  Moved well off strong quarters and short hocks with great tail action  her shiny dark coat complemented her assets.  A big'un she aint but she has the ring presence seldom seen in a bitch.  Bitch Challenge Certificate.

2nd      Chorley-Newtons & Chorleys SH CH OUTFOXED BY KERRYFAIR JW

A very classy little lady, who is one of my favourites.  Just unlucky to meet one on such top form. Beautifull head an wistfull expression, she too has the qualities of one but has not quite the back angulation.

3rd       Loughlins        IR CH ROHANMOR MY BLUE HEAVEN SHCM

Good Citizens Bitch (6 entries)

1st        Edes EDENTOP JAZZ

Really nice type of bitch with a lovely head.  Front assembly could be tighter, she has strong quarters and a good topline and moved steadily.

2nd      Mitchell DAVSET CARRIE ANNE

Pretty bitch, lacking finish today in a strong entry. Front could be tighter, she is a nice type and moved OK.
