Critique - Judge: Bitches: Mrs Julie Wilkins (Margretwoods)
Thank you to the exhibitors for a lovely entry. I was very impressed with the quality of the exhibits and think we should rightly be proud of our lovely breed in current times as they are certainly fit for purpose.
Irish Setter Bitches:
Veteran:
1. Naylor & Morrison’s Sh Ch Anlory Valpolicella JW. An old favourite of mine who I have done well for before and was thrilled to see her make an appearance today and boy did she enjoy herself. In good coat and condition, straight front on neat feet, super topline down to powerful hindquarters which she still uses with power on the move. BV in agreement with my co-judge.
2 Martin’s Ixia Tabitha. A glamourous bitch, sound and true both standing and on the move. Lovely head, good depth to body. Unlucky to meet 1.
3. Waterton’s Lynwood Strands of Silk at Sandstream JW ShCM.
Minor Puppy:
Hard to choose between these first two, both just adorable.
1. Muir’s Romarne Savanah, just loved her body proportions with excellent angulation, good layback of shoulder, excellent width of thigh finished off with a thick dark coat. Very steady on the move.
2. Bott’s Bardonhill Granny Mae. Similar in type to 1 and same remarks apply. Her head is just scrumptious but today she just would not behave for her handler standing or on the move and had to give way to the better schooled puppy. On another day may be different.
3. Condron’s Covarney Snowflurry
Puppy:
1.Condron’s Covarney Annabell with Hopstone. Pretty head with raised brows and melting expression, super strong front, good length of neck, slightly arched, leading into well laid back shoulders and a strong firm topline. BPB.
2. Catling’s Shandwick Star Shine at Teleri. Built on flowing lines with well bent stifles and straight hocks, soft head expression with dark pigment and low ears. Well presented, just preferred topline of 1.
3. Pollard’s Grayrigge Rosalind
Junior:
This was the most super class of youngsters and what a great prospect for the breeds future. All moved so well with such style.
1. Weller’s Suteresett Wispa at Juldeane. This bitch caught my eye on first glance around the ring. Nothing is exaggerated. Exquisite head expression, good shoulder angulation, firm small feet, gleaming dark coat and pigment. Pleased to hear this win gave her JW.
2. Box’s Fernstart Lovesong. Such a pretty racy bitch, very elegant, good topline into good tailset, flowing well bent stifles, would just prefer a darker coat colour.
3. Gisby’s Suteresett Black Magic
Special Yearling :
1. Lucas’ Reddins Frolic among Amberlight. What an upstanding elegant girl. Moves with such style and drive. Well boned, tremendous body depth, well muscled, in great coat and condition. Would just prefer a darker eye.
2. Suteresett Wispa at Juldeane
3. Fernstart Lovesong.
Novice:
1. Brown’s Tifosi Mamas Pearl. Pretty head with very long ears. Flowing topline into strong hindquarters, moved well holding her line
2. Suteresett Black Magic. A real sweetie but not quite the maturity of 1 yet or of her sister, soft expression, excellent front angulation, straight front on strong pasterns, just prefered more developed hindquarter of 1 today
3. Humphreys’ Millcroft Moongem at Henaleas
Graduate:
1. Mortimer & Condron’s Covarney Coco JW. Full of mischievous character and one I have admired since a baby. Just excels in angulation fore and aft with super return of upper arm rarely seen, correct lines, beautiful head looking at you under those raised brows.
2. Bridgewater’s Bridgellas Winnie the Witch. Another one with a very naughty irish glint in her eye and aptly named! Loved her shape from straight front, good spring of rib to powerful hindquarters.
3. Chorley-Newton & Chorley’s Kerryfair All in Red.
Post Graduate:
1. Mitchell’s Amblin Acquiescence. Lovely type of bitch, most classic head, tightest of feet, shorter coupled with good body proportions. Attractive dark coat.
2. Stevenson’s Lochlorien Prime Suspect for Andley JW. Pretty bitch with refined head, well put together with deep chest through to sound hindquarters, just carrying a bit too much weight today.
3. Williamson’s Bluesprings Atlantis
Mid Limit:
The most super class.
1. Naylor & Morrison’s Anlory Carmenere JW. This young bitch just oozes quality. She is just so well put together, sound, angulated, beautifully balanced, most striking topline flowing from her muscular arched neck through to her well set on tail, topped off with the most beautifully presented gleaming coat. She just drives around the ring off short strong hocks. Pleased to award her her second CC. Awarded BOB on referee’s decision and pleased to see go on to take RBIS
2. Hinslea’s Northamber Causin a Riot JW. Love this bitch. Not as racy as 1 but presents a lovely balanced shape, well boned, strong front, excellent topline, moves so well and presented in fabulous coat So close for the res CC but just fell for the head expression of the open winner.
3. Hogsflesh’s Lynor Living Water JW.
Limit:
1. Brown’s Shandwick Irresistable at Tifosi. Where has this bitch been hiding? She has really blossomed into the most pretty lady. Excellent outline with depth, good tailset, short hocks and neat feet. Presented in excellent condition.
2. Condron & Mortimer’s Covarney Miss B Havin, one I have admired in the ring lately and she didn’t disappoint today. Strong topline with good body length, excellent rear angulation which he uses to advantage on the move.
3. Gisby’s Balbriggan Ace of Hearts by Suteresett
Open :
1. Chorley-Newton & Chorley’s Sh Ch Outfoxed By Kerryfair JW. A real classy lady. She has a dream of a head, correctly balanced with kind expression and lovely almond shape eye. Stunning outline with clean flowing topline with no lumps or bumps and she is so stylish on the move with her high head carriage. Res CC.
2. Heron’sSh Ch Caskey’s Happy Hour JW. Beautiful well made classic bitch, just not the glamour of 1 which I love. She is so sound with tremendous body depth topped off with a lovely head and expression.
3. Robert’s Lynwood Theme Song for Polmennor.
Good Citizen’s Dog Scheme:
1. Lynwood Theme Song for Polmennor. Extremely pretty bitch, good shoulder placement, flowing topline, moved really well in this class.
2. Eden’s Edentop Jazz. Showed better in this class. In full coat with strong straight front on neat feet and good head.
3. Berry & Morris’ Brinara Mercedes
