Windsor Championship Show 2 July 2009

Critique - Judge: Rita Pike (Scarletti)

I would like to thank the Windsor Committee for their hospitality and for the buffet the evening before the big day. My thanks to the hard working stewards.

There were quite a few dogs with light eyes and coats, splayed feet and lacking in upper arm angulation. Movement was disappointing sometimes but the conditions were so extreme I chose to be lenient. Quite a few bitches I felt were overweight. Where oh where have the lovely heads gone?

Loved this dog - what a handsome head with lots of work, dark eye, most wistful expression, great front and feet, good depth - well ribbed back has good underline and tuck in loin, well bent stifles and short hocks. Great finish of croup and tail set and powered around the ring. Wonderful coat and condition. Reserve CC.

3. Mr & Mrs M Vary s BAIBREEZE FRED ASTAIRE

Limit Dog (16 entries) Abs 3

1. Mrs B Lake's CASKEYS CHECKMATE

Beautiful headed boy with a melting expression, dark eye good finish to foreface, very balanced and stands on good legs and feet. Great depth and spring of rib, well-muscled quarters in absolutely gleaming coat, moved well. Let himself down in the challenge by tucking himself in and would not relax probably feeling the heat. His time will come.

2. Mrs C McLarnon's NORTHAMBER JUST CAUSE FOR GLENAVNA

Rather keen on this boy too. Of super quality. Owns a lovely head and expression, powerful front and rear, strong legs and feet, in great coat and feather, he held his top line when moving close up to one.

3. Miss S Roffey's DANAWAY LANCELOT OF AUTUMNWOOD

Open Dog (8 entries) Abs 0

1. Mr W & Mrs A Lauwers SH CH SUMARIC SHADOW OF MR JINGLES

He is a dream of a setter. In my minds eye this is how a mature Irish setter should look. He has a wonderful head and expression. Angulations front and back perfect. Strong quarters well bent stifles short neat hocks, feet well padded and tight. Great fore chest and depth, well ribbed back and strong loin. Super croup finish and tail set and the most glorious dark lush coat and feather. He moves like a dream, powerful strides tail lashing. His owners must be so proud of him. Dog CC, BOB and Group 1.

2. Mrs M B Davie LOCHFRAE RALPH LAUREN

Different type to winner and I must say I have always had a soft spot for him. He is of a larger type, racy with a lovely head Super front and feet, good depth and well angulated front and back, moved well today but felt that he was lacking the sparkle and coat finish.

3 Mr R P Bott & Mrs A H Morgan's SH CH EMBER GENE SIMMONS SINGS QUENSHA (Imp)

Veteran Dog or Bitch (4 entries) Abs 1

1. Mrs M Lewis & Mr J Storeys LYNWOOD PIONEER OF SEADOG

2. Dr S Wigfull's COPPERSHEEN CHACCONE

Preferred her type but she would not be handled. Lovely head and front, she moved well and looked a picture standing but would not be handled.

3. Absent

Puppy Bitch (10 entries) Abs 2

1. Mrs V Blackshaw's LANSTARA LOLLIPOP

Very pretty bitch, feminine head, low set ears good front and feet well ribbed with super outline, well bent stifles, a little unsettled in her movement but one to watch for the future.

2. Mrs V Blackshaw's LANSTARA LUSCIOUS LILY

Same remarks apply. Two lovely litter sisters for this lucky owner one just showed with a little more confidence.

3. Mr J S F & Mrs P Smith's REDDINS LUCILLE

Junior Bitch (14 entries) Abs 2

1. Mr N Naylor & Miss Morrison's ANLORY CARMENERE JW

I felt this was a very hotly contested class. This is a stunning young bitch in outline and she did not disappoint on closer examination. Really good head properties, dark eye, strong neck into well laid shoulders, excellent angulations and underline, strong quarters, striking dark coat and positive driving movement. Although young she was seriously considered for the top honours.

2. Mrs J Walters DENEIL WUN LUV

Lovely type with most appealing head and eye, she has well laid shoulders, good front assembly nice depth and rib good underline and tucked loin. She moved well from her sound quarters and held her line.

Special Yearling Bitch (11 entries) Abs 2

1. Mr R C & Mrs J Mugford's LYNWOOD STARTED

This youngster is maturing into a lovely lady. Dark gleaming coat, gorgeous head and melting expression she oozes quality has a stunning top line well balanced and the most wonderful mover.

2. Mrs K A Hall's GLENNARA LEHANA JW

Lovely girl, bigger in size and longer cast, preferred head of one, head neck and shoulders, front and feet A1, in lovely coat and feather she moved well.

3. Mrs L Dale's ANLORY DREAMS

Post Graduate Bitch (16 entries) Abs 4

1. Mr & Mrs G Condron's SCOTSELAW MEMPHIS BELLE AT COVARNEY

I have always admired this bitch from a puppy and she is maturing into a first class lady. Her head is just gorgeous with dark eye and mischievous expression. Strong arched neck, well laid shoulders pleasing top line neat well padded feet and plenty of heart room in her well sprung ribs. She used her strong well-developed quarters to move well and win the Reserve CC.

2. Mrs S Chorley-Newton & Miss K Chorley's OUTFOXED BY KERRYFAIR JW

A super bitch liked her a lot. So much work in her head makes for a desired quizzical expression. Flattering ear placement strong neck and well laid shoulders, front is straight and free well boned, good depth and underline and she moved well with drive. Time is on her side.

3. Mr & Mrs B Hinslea's NORTHAMBER CAUSIN A RIOT

Limit Bitch (19 entries) Abs 7

1. Mrs J Wilkins MARGRETWOOS KITTY CAT JW

Well she certainly had her best dress on today - she looked great in gleaming coat and condition. I adore her head and expression and inquisitive look. She has a stunning top line, which flows from neck to tail including correct croup finish. She is so well balanced. Wonderful front and sternum with neat feet and well angulated quarters. I liked her on the move showing positive movement and drive and I was pleased to award her the bitch CC.

2. Miss E D Ciechhonska's COPPER'S CHAMPAGNE BUBBLE AT AOIBHEANNE JW (Imp)

This bitch is a favourite of mine. Different make and shape to the winner but could not be denied her place. I love her head, wistful expression and low ear set. She is well made all through everything in the right place and has a strong top line held when on the move. Needs more coat to complete the picture and maturity to gain her title.

3. Mr J Vant's BARLEYDALE HAPPINESS

Open Bitch (5 entries) Abs 0

1. Mrs Y Hill-Decanter's DUTCH HUN CH VICARY'S FANCYFACE

Larger bitch nicely made all though, nice head and eye, super top line front and feet with strong muscular quarters she moved really well.

2. Mr, Mrs & Miss Heron's SH CH CASKEYS HAPPY HOUR

Very pretty head and expression, I would prefer her a little more racy, she has good depth and well angulated quarters, I have seen her move with more animation, I think she was feeling the heat on this very hot day.

3. Miss S Waterton's LYNWOOD STRANDS OF SILK AT SANDSTREAM JW SH.CM.
