Critique - Judge: Mrs. Lynne Dale  (Dogs)

It was a pleasure judging again with Biddy and for a change we agreed on everything.
BOB going to the bitch Ixia Genevieve.
I was sorry to see so many of the dogs I have admired from the ringside missing on the day, but hey, that’s the way of the world and in no way detracts from my winners. Movement worried me. Paddling & hackney front action together with close hind movement which lacked drive is a cause for concern.

VETERAN  (8-1 abs)

This is always a difficult and emotional class for me.

1.   Richardson’s     SH.CH. KIRKAVAGH FIDALGO JW

Whatever one’s personal opinion of Intrepid it can’t be denied that he produced many stunning children and this handsome old man is one of the best. Approaching 10 years he carries a balanced and refined head with that special Irish expression, dark eye, ample stop and correct ear set. Straight front, good fore chest, deep in brisket. Correct angles both front and rear. In good coat and condition. Sound true movement. A few years ago he was difficult to beat; today as a veteran I was happy awarding him the RCC.

2.   Edwards           BARLEYDALE LUMIERE

Just into veteran, could have stood his ground in Open. Handsome well chiselled head so typical of his breeding. Good neck into well placed shoulders, flowing outline, well angulated rear quarters, in full coat. Moved soundly but a little proud of his tail.

3.   Drinkwater’s         SH.CH. BRABROOK TRUE BLADE JW

MINOR PUPPY  (8-2 abs)

1.   Gisby/Pike’s          SUTERESETT MILKY WAY WITH SCARLETTI

Just 6 months and developing along the right lines. Pleasing head, good neck and shoulders, straight front. Lively and happy on the move. All the basic essentials are there just needs time to mature.

2.   Stubbs                   RIVERBRUE ZEUS

Preferred this baby for type but just didn’t show to advantage, at 7 month he must have a bright future. Balanced head with lovely eye and expression, ample neck into well placed shoulders. Correct front, deep in brisket, good topline and tail set. Well angulated hind quarters, typical baby puppy movement but sound.

3.   Gwilliam’s             MILLCROFT POACHERS MOON

PUPPY  (9-3 abs)

1.   McLarnon             GLENAVNA JOURNEY SOUTH

At just 9 months what a cracker, I wish he was mine.Handsome balanced head, dark eye, raised brows giving him a true Irish expression.Straight front with neat feet.  Ample neck into well laid back shoulders with correct angles. Flowing outline, strong rear quarters with good width. In excellent coat and condition. Sound steady mover. Best Puppy

2.   Greenan                 ANLORY THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OVER JULESET

9 month puppy. Pleasing head with soft but masculine expression, dark correctly shaped eye well defined stop. Straight front, good neck and forehand construction. Balanced overall. Shows much promise. Sound on the move.

3.   Hogarth                 AVECET SNOWDRIFT

JUNIOR  (10-4 abs)

 1.   Mugford                COPPER’S UNDERCOVER AT LYNWOOD (Imp. Swe.)

Easy winner of this class.  Liked his overall type and quality.   Refined balanced head, soft expression. Good reach to neck into well laid back shoulders. Ample spring of rib and depth to brisket.  Correct topline and tail set. Well constructed hindquarters.Sound free mover.

2.   Rorke                    CATALUNA POLE POSITION

Very different from 1 but again a quality young dog. Masculine head of good proportions.  Overall well balanced picture with good angles to rear quarters. He really can move and is so sound.

3.   Quinn/McNamara   CATALUNA PETER PAN

YEARLING  (9-1 abs)

1.   Bartholomew        KIRKAVAGH ISTABRAQ WITH BARTHOLEYS

Gave this handsome boy’s sister a first at Crufts, he is her male equivalent.  Carries a balanced head with good stop raised brows and kind dark eyes. Straight front, good fore chest & shoulders, nicely balanced outline correct tail carriage. Deep in brisket with plenty of rib. Strong well muscled hind quarters Sound on the move.

2.   Glithero/Philo        COPPERSHELL CAZANOVAH

Different in type to my winner. Another handsome young man with all the basic essentials for maturing on to do some top winning. Balanced in outline, strong well angulated hindquarters. Moves well.

3.   Jones                     HUNNICOATE HEATHERMAN

NOVICE  (11-6 abs)

1.   McLarnon             GLENAVNA JOURNEY SOUTH

3.   Pallister                 PENWYN AMERICAN BOY

GRADUATE   (12-5 abs)

1.   Crosswell              GWENDARIFF MR NOTICEME JW

Just 2 yrs and what a star. Conformation for me just perfect. His outline flows from nose to tail with no exaggerations. Handsome head with ample stop, raised brows over dark expressive eyes. Straight front with tight neat feet. Plenty of neck into well laid shoulders, gentle slope to the topline which continued to perfect tailset. Hindquarters well turned with excellent width over second thigh. In gleaming full coat with just the right amount of furnishings. Moved soundly, with style and drive using and carrying his tail correctly.  I was please to award him his first CC.

2.   Hunter/Brown       SHENANAGIN SCHOLAR JW

Handsome boy not shamed in anyway standing second here. Racy in outline. Head long and lean with correct balanced proportions, dark correctly shaped eye, low set ears.Correct angles front and rear. In great coat and condition. Easy flowing movement.

3.   Murray/Berry        HARVANCOURT CAPELLO

POST GRADUATE   (14-4 abs)

1.   Naylor/Morrison    ANLORY BONARDA JW

This medium sized dog reminds me of the old Wendover’s of the 60/70’s.Clean balanced outline with no over exaggeration. Love this boys head, masculine with kind expressive dark eyes. Best of fronts with excellent fore chest. Ample neck fitting into well placed shoulders. Plenty of spring to rib, well muscled over the loin. Strong quarters, good return of stifle. Have seen him move better.

2.   Swainston             GLENVARNA HIMSELF JW

Close up to 1.  Handsome head well balanced correct eye. True front good angles both fore and aft. Plenty of depth and spring to rib. Pleasing overall construction. In full coat and moved well.

3.   Webb/Ramsey       REDDINS DAZZLER

2.   Crocker/Hammick    RIVERBRUE DIONYSUS JW

3.   Pike                       REDCLYST CORMAC

OPEN  (6-0)

The first 2 here were hair splitting decisions and on another day could easily be reversed. . The one critique applies to both, my final decision being made on maturity.

1.   Holehan/North      SH.CH. ERINADE STARWARS JW

2.   McLarnon      SH.CH./IR.SH.CH. NORTHAMBER JUST CAUSE FOR GLENAVNA

These two are both stunning dogs and I am sure between them will go on to win many more CC’s.  They have handsome, balanced, refined heads with dark eye and that all important soft Irish expression. Excellent shoulders front and ribs. Gentle sloping topline and correct tail set. Well constructed hindquarters with good width over second thigh. In tip top condition. Super on the move with good drive.
